got a pool table in the front room now. real open fire. 3 ales on. quality!

Now very much open (Jan 2013).
A great pub with great owners. We adopted the pub pre football match at Buxton and was an excellent choice. Must have been a hundred or so of us in there and they kept the excellent local ale flowing continually.
They also produced a stack of bacon sarnies for us!
One of the best football ale sessions I have had in many a year. Thanks to the owners and see you next season

Now, sadly, shut down, a victim of the current economic climate. It will be sadly missed as there are not many oases of civilisation in Buxton.

Pleasantly surprised, cafe/bars not usually my scene. Real ales fine, staff civil, nice outside area by bar.

Unusual but consistently good little cafe/bar on the steep hill from the Crescent to the Market place. Always a range of interesting beers on offer with reasonable lunchtime food. Now our place to stop for a quick couple after a show at the nearby Opera House.

This was a lovely find in Buxton today, and we enjoyed our Batemas XXXB and Church End Goats Milk while having a full 3 courses of the delicious meals on offer. First class ale, first class food, and fantastic staff. Well done.

An unusual mix of cafe and real ale bar (Its in the GBG) Out front at lunch time you may need to wade through ladies who lunch. But its worth it as at the back is a little oasis of calm called the bar! Here there is a rolling array of 3 always well kept real ales, usually from smaller or micro breweries plus draught cider and Leffe. In the evening it stops doing food and becomes Buxton's equivalent of a proper bar.
Well done guys, keep it up
