Cholmondeley Arms, Malpasback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
First visit here today. Pub has been converted from an old schoolhouse, ad retains a school theme, e.g. Toilets are boys and girls, notices written on old blackboards etc. Food was excellent. Large selection of gins stocked, various sampling sessions available. You could just visit here for a drink as thee is suitable seating available, but it would not be a pub for fertile drinking next to the bar.Large modern fire arrangement splits the main room into two. Friendly helpful staff.

Overpriced Gastro pub in need of a good clean!!

Former school-house that retains this feel, which means plenty of atmopshere even though it's almost barn-like with the high ceilings and large rooms. There's a good beer selection from the locals, such as Weetwood and Salopian. These were very well-kept, if expensive. In the middle of nowhere so a lot of the trade is diners, although I didn't eat here the food seems to be well-regarded. Pleasant beer garden at the front and a small library of books. Enjoyed it here and would happily return. Handy for the nearby Cholmondeley castle gardens.

We travelled quite a few miles to visit this pub, but were disappointed overall, we all agreed that we won`t be going back. The starters were very small for the rather high price, certainly won`t fend off any hunger pangs! The main course was good with a really nice potato dish (again small portion of potatoes). Children`s meals are a good size (4.95 I think), but an extra 75p for beans!! Shame the children`s menu was `the usual`, would have expected a few healthier options. It doesn`t seem to be geared up for children. There wasn`t any sort of atmosphere in the pub, which was a shame. It`s also rather tatty in parts, needs a bit of redecoration, although a lovely building from outside. Back to the Swan with to nicks I think next time.
