The Cholmondeley Arms, Malpas

We travelled quite a few miles to visit this pub, but were disappointed overall, we all agreed that we won`t be going back. The starters were very small for the rather high price, certainly won`t fend off any hunger pangs! The main course was good with a really nice potato dish (again small portion of potatoes). Children`s meals are a good size (4.95 I think), but an extra 75p for beans!! Shame the children`s menu was `the usual`, would have expected a few healthier options. It doesn`t seem to be geared up for children. There wasn`t any sort of atmosphere in the pub, which was a shame. It`s also rather tatty in parts, needs a bit of redecoration, although a lovely building from outside.
Back to the Swan with to nicks I think next time.

Blundell Arms, Horwich

One of the few lovely summer evenings we had experienced this year. We decided to visit the Blundell Arms to enjoy the lovely garden area and views. When we arrived with out 6 year old the outdoor seating area was full of smokers! We managed to find a table inside, although most were `reserved`. My husband went to the bar to get drinks and a children`s menu. We chose our meals and ordered, including a children`s meal. A member of staff walked past our table whilst collecting glasses. It was only when they came to lay the table about 20 minutes later that we were told we had to move, as we had a child with us. Had we been told this on arrival, we would have moved to another pub. We were moved to the `dungeon`, where children cannot be seen! How out of touch is this?
I haven`t come across this since I was a child and families were only allowed in the lean-to of a pub.

I also witnessed a few unprofessional exchanges between staff members. As for the food, not bad, but small portions. I have never seen such a small portion of mash potato!

The best thing this pub has is it`s location, but they have spoiled a once nice country pub.
