Village pub with a bar area and a more formal dining area. There are plenty of tables. But we felt that it had a real pretentious feel to it. Although it was more upmarket than other pubs we had visited during the day. The 3 ales were Sharp's Doom Bar & Atlantic & Plain Ales Innocence. I went for the latter, with no real cider available. The place soon filled up with diners. But we took a look at the menu and decided that it was not for us. There were a number of dogs too - far too many for our liking. Boules can now be played at the front. Not overly enamoured with this pub though.

Excellent village community local with 3 local ales on. Good food. Lovely village. Definitely worth turning off the A30 or A303 for between Gillingham and Templecombe.

Staff were friendly and helpful and made us some sandwiches on a Sunday when normally only roasts were served. A good range of beer on the handles, ours was in very good condition. With its high ceilings and sofas in the bar area, and a separate restaurant area this seems to have been recently refurbished in the gastro style yet still worth a visit for the reasons previously mentioned.

Food was tremendous and the beer top notch - Northern Star from Moor Beer was the best pint I'd had this summer (had to try several & it goes splendidly with the pies). Room was great too & the staff and ambiance make for a very relaxing stay. I'll be stopping here again when I'm down that way

Some excellent food here and some very high-quality beers as well. More than a little off any beaten track, so to survive this place would have to be high-quality. Not that expensive, either, all things considered.

Good ales, homemade chutney and pies on the bar. Food very good - often served on a piece of slate or a wooden board.

easily the best pub in the Gillingham, Dorset area. sister pub to the Queens Arms at Corton Denham, so same formula of decoration, same range of ales, same menu and 'Growlers'. Good home-made chutney to accompany the Gs. also the same type of country wannabe clientele...
but very good range of ales, usually 4 reals, well kept and generally well presented....
