user reviews of the Mulberry Bush, Amersham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Renamed "Harte and Magpie", now a traditional pub serving 3 real ales (mainly local brews) reasonable menu mainly pub food with some "game" dishes a tad on the expensive side though.

The pub owners won the national Pub of the Year 2009 and have turned round a "lost" chain pub to a real pub again. See the article on the Magpies in the Bucks Free Press in December about how they sheltered the car travellers snowed in on the road. They put them up over night.
This is what the British pub is about and this is what they can do when well run by guys who care about their community.
Well done Magpies and Cheers

I was under the impression that this Website was intended for genuine, unbiased and frankly honest reviews of Pubs, and NOT for some self-obsessed tw@t of an attempted Landlord to self-promote his ridiculous overpriced establishment? Perhaps I'm wrong....go and check it out yourself folks....see if you concur with my ORIGINAL review of the place. As for you, Matthew O'Keefe, you keep deluding yourself that the Royal Standard is the oldest Pub in England.....you make yourself sound like more of a t1t as each day passes...

Good Bile!!

What a difference in a pub, since these guys took over. Great night out, with a fantastic meal. Really friendly staff, and the log fires are back. Welcome back the Magpies.

Never let it be said that I don't back up my initial assumptions with fact. As a follow on to my comments below in May '09, I visited this somewhat empty place the other evening and was disappointed with only 1 Real Ale on offer. I opted for a Fruit Juice (for a change), whilst my companion had a (post-mix syrup) Diet Coke. This came to nearly SIX POUNDS!! 6 for two soft drinks....I dread to imagine how much a pint would be in here, let alone the food!! On that basis, I refer to my earlier previous comments, and in the words of the old Nan from the Catherine Tate Show...."What a fackin LIBERTY!!" Avoid.

Recently acquired by the dreadful Matthew O'Keefe, attempted Owner of the Royal Standard. If that place is anything to go by, then this will also be a Faux, Overpriced Rip-Off, populated only by Coachload's of American Tourists who will pay ANY money for a "quaint" bit of British life.....Ye God's.....we're all doomed!

My husband and I ate lunch here today, great service, great prices, hot food ~ I had the Chicken Kiev and it was very nice! If I had relied on the previous comments I wouldn't have visited this pub ~ I'm so glad I did I will be recommending it and visiting again.

Didn't eat there, but would say the Irish landlord was perfectly welcoming, and the London Pride was perfectly acceptable.

If you like chicken kiev that takes a hacksaw to cut and without garlic butter, this is the pub for you. I ended up scooping the chicken out of the outer coating which I couldn't get through.
