Oddly, despite watching Reading Football Club at the previously adjacent Elm Park for 22 years, I had never set foot in this pub. Bigger than expected, the barmaid offered to replace a dodgy pint without quibble an was very affable. The only issue is the mediocre beer selection which has our friends from Gruner Koenig written all over it.

Not the best pub in the Tilehurst/West Reading area, but generally OK. Good to watch football, occasionally. Often has kids running around, seen a few confrontations between punters and punters/staff. Beer has been hit and miss, sometimes only bottles (Abbot etc.) available.
Pub is fine for a quick pint, but I wouldn't spend the evening there. Credit to the current management for making the effort with quizzes and live music, but I've not been so can't comment on these.

Popped in a couple of times during the day last year and found a really nice pub with a small but decently-served Greedy King range.
Inside is quite plush, has a bar billiards table and comfy chairs.
Will try and get back over there in the evening to see if it really is the Chavalanche that other reviews suggest.
But for now I'll say that I rather like it.

Terrible pub which is more or less filled to the rim with scum bags in the evening. If your not a regular be careful the many hard ass prepubesent teenagers may well kick your ass if you smile at them. Full of sad middle aged women who are looking for a good time and make complete fools of themselves when they have had one to many.
Food is average, service is ok, manager doesn't take any crap but then again does not mind serving under age 'ass kicking teens'!
The place has gont down hill especially since elm park was built and a lot of the regulars have moved on for fear they may get their head kicked in!
Only suitable if your a hard ass teen, lost middle aged woman or alcoholic. Its a real shame was once a lovely pub.

Good backstreet local, better in the day than at night. Beer is very good, Greene King ales kept well. Food looks average to poor, clientele vary from up and coming middle class colonists to ropey junior hard men from the Elm park estate but there is no trouble as bar staff are competent and capable. Recently changed management which reduced the beer quality for a time but it has recently improved again as the staff got their act together.

A drinking pub, lots of space, poor food, but the beer is very good, cheap and served with professionalism and speed. Well worth it for a drink but just don't eat here.

Solid boozer, big Reading FC pub, real ales very well kept and the staff know how to pour a pint, not quite as good as it was before the change of management but steadily improving. One may question the wisdom of letting so many children in quiet a smoky bar but it's their parents choice.
The food however stil isn't great, even the snacky stuff like chips and onion rings.

Nice pub with good locals.
Looking for an old mate who drinks here, Sharon Freemantle. If anyone has seen of heard about her please contact me as i am desperate to get in contact again. This is known as her local.

Very good beer at very reasonable prices, large non-smoking lounge, trouble free if a little intimidating at first. Only downside is the pub food, which is far too "deep fry and microwave" stylee. With a tiny bit more effort on that front this would be a truely great pub. My new local.

Greene King pub done up in the last few years after the football ground (Elm Park) moved away. Has a decent range of excellent beers (Abbot Ale, IPA, and usually a seasonal brew). Nice bit of wooden decking out the back for those summer evenings.
