Like most pubs near a bus station, this is a bit of a dive, but the service was friendly enough and the beer well kept. OK for four "lads" touring the town, but not so much of a family pub.

Visiting Rye yesterday made a big mistake by visiting here. Waited half an hour for David Dickinson coloured chips and finger sized slice of burnt pie. The misses had a burnt single layer lasagne. Took the money when ordering, never asked “if it was all right”. Guess I know why “because it never is”. Over priced shabby Pub in otherwise Great Town .

Friendly, basic looking local but good beer and definitely the kind of place for a civil chat with locals.

Great little friendly pub. Went for Sunday lunch with wife and 5 year old. We were told there were no child portions available but the Sunday roast was very good and good value. At the end of the meal they brought a great big free dessert for our child. 2 beers on, Master Brew and Bishops Finger. I had the MB which was spot on. Really worth a visit.

This has just been put under new management, which is a big improvement. A much nicer atmosphere already and I look forward to it improving and the ale selection growing.

After a trip round Rye I went into this pub before catching the train home. Two beers on- Masterbrew and Bishop's Finger. I had the BF which was ok. Not the sort of pub I'd stay in very long. Neatly laid out but not a lot of character. Thankfully none of the racist speech referred to in previous reviews.

This is a horrible, dingy little pub with a very unfriendly, aggressive atmosphere and rude, foulmouthed staff. A real blight on a lovely town - best avoided.

Was in on a Sunday evening last month and the Cinque Ports was quite lively at the time, probably as a result of a seriously hot day and the prospect of live music later that evening. I had a very refreshing couple of pints of Masterbrew (only ale on, 2.70/pint) and would happily use it again if waiting for a train; particularly good to see a pub with a dartboard still in use. I may have caught the punters on a good day but didn't hear any racist abuse in the 45 minutes I was there. Solid and nice enough in an unremarkable way.

Typical small town boozer - live music on Sundays which is fine, Good Shep's beer

I completely agree with the comments below made by Strongers. I was in here on Saturday just as the Derby was about to start and witnessed some racist comments and general loutishness which went unchallenged by staff. This is a shame because the beer is actually quite well kept and obviously turned over at a good old lick. I jumped straight on the 'Hastings Flier' at the nearby railway station and made good my escape.

Beer ok. The bar had four elderly people in it yet Radio 1 was blaring out over the speakers. Who is this for? Certainly not the customers most of whom are old from my experience of this pub. Generally good service though.
