Surprised to see some of the negative comments about the Blue Anchor here. As locals we regularly use the pub and find that it has the best standard of food in Crowborough. The burgers are first rate, the belly of pork is restaurant quality and the fish and chips superb. Rude staff is inexcusable in any pub and to be honest we did think that when the new tennants arrived that they could be a bit more friendly. However I think the service now is much better and we're warmly greeted whenever we go. There's more of a family feel to the pub now - I feel comfortable bringing my kids in for a weekend lunch and they do now have a kids menu , the quality of which is the best we've seen anywhere (just taste the macaroni cheese!). Good choice of beers and I think the pub deserves to be a success as the food and service is consistently very good.

Awfull customers service and food! Firstly when making our booking for 5 we were told it had to be at 12.15 as they already had a large booking coming in at 12.30, it then turned out we were the only people in the restaurant for the length of our visit. (This tells a story on it's own considering it was Sunday lunch time). We all had roasts and were so dissapointed, we were given shredded slices of wafer thin fatty beef, buried under a pile of raw veg. The reason it was hidden was probably to disguise the fact their was barely enough to feed my 2 year old, We commented to the manager/owner about the quality & quantity of the meat, but we were greated by a dirty look and asked "what did we expect" and that was it, he made no appology and was just plain rude. Truely poor by anyones standards

I went to the Blue Anchor in Crowborough to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday last weekend. As usual the food was excellent and the service was spot on. We had two starters, two main courses, an excellent bottle of wine and a couple of 'liveners' - all for 60 plus tip. We were due to go to Thackeray's in Tunbridge Wells that evening but decided that based on past experience, the food at the Blue Anchor was every bit as good, very reasonably priced and just along the road from our house. We weren't disappointed by our decision. I can firmly recommend the Spitfire Rarebit, the Pork Belly and the Pinot Gris (18) to wash it all down. We have lived close to the Blue Anchor for over 12 years and whilst we have never been 'pubby' people before, the food and welcome that we get from Martyn, Damian and Caroline - even when just popping in for a pint and some pork scratchings have definitely converted us and keep us coming back for more!

We met at the pub today with my sister and her other half and it was the first time for the four of us. The service was superb and the food all exellent. The staff were all great and knew their job. I had a BBQ Platter off the specials board and it was fantastic and very tasty. My better half had the belly pork with all the veg and she said how good it was. I managed two pints of the Bishops Finger which was also in good nick. A very enjoyable visit and we will be going again. Keep up the good work

decent pub, beer always really well kept. good quiz every couple of weeks. relaxed kind of place, no music, fairly smart.

I like this pub alot. The guys here are trying really hard to turn round a business that had been properly neglected. Decent pint and decent food and proper customers not lager knobs

This pub has been a trusted place of socialising for myself and others for quite sometime now. For a while we have noticed the rather rude and disrespectful manner of the two owners. Our negative opinion of them was increased this week, as we gathered in at our usual table for a birthday celebration. A cake was made for the occasion and we sang and started to cut up the cake. However, from the bar, the owner then blurted "Dont eat that in here. you did'nt by it here. you didnt pay for it here. So dont eat it." in an EXTREMELY harsh tone. A friend then tried to reason with him and awnsered "does it make any difference that its our friends birthday cake?" and in reply to this, the owner turned round with a dirty look and said "no. suprisingly... no." Of course, we were all stunned silent. We could not believe how we were treated and will NOT be going back there. The next day, a member of the group rang the pub to complain about the incident. Only to be awnsered with a violent man shouting down the phone at her. I do not think this kind of behaviour is at all acceptable and would like to pass on this information to anyone thinking of going to this pub.

This pub has been through hard times lately, the previous landlady had no interest in the pub and standards dropped dramatically. The new landlords have been in place since Feb and have started to turn the pub into a great place to eat and drink. I recommend the Slow Roasted Belly Pork, food heaven!

This pub is getting back to its former glory - recently changed hands and is as they say under old management - the old landlady has come back and it is returning to a decent pub with good food at sensible prices.
To the Rocking Vicar - forgive them and be brave sacrifice another lunchtime or evening and try it again!!

Have had the misfortune to eat here twice in the last six months, i cannot believe that i allowed myself to be persuaded to go and eat there again on the second second occasion (which was less than a week ago). Very poor quality food, miserable portions ( gammon, egg and chips = handfull of chips+gammon smaller than a breakfast rasher+a snotty egg) and exspensive. Would have complained but as it takes so long to get served just left the money and walked out. Much better alternatives to choose from locally.

Use to be a great pub, has been through wars and is still OK but hasn't matched it's past glories. Beer can be hit and miss but considering its competition in the town its still worth a visit
