Decent ye olde worlde pub with a couple beers straight from the barrel - Doombar was one and they were both well kept. Pub must be popular as the marquee for the overspill was fully occupied. Had the 11 pork dish and it was excellent - at least they had lots of veg. Never knew about this pub until the invite - well worth another visit.

i have been to this pub a few times. its a lovely pub. but when i went there once i saw what looked like the publican yelling, almost abusing the young australian girl who was behind the bar. i thought it was disgusting. he pretty much fired her on the spot in front of the customers who were in there. i have never gone back after that. he seemed to be a grumpy old man.

This is indeed a rare gem of a pub. My usual gripe on 'Beerintheevening' is that pub service is indifferent; or worse. This is not the case here. Service was professional and friendly.

The food and beer are of a very good standard. The beer garden is a wonderful suprise for the passing visitor; the misbourne river runs through it. This is alive with fish, ducks and other wildlife. A great place to take your mum or your children. Simply unique. A must visit.

The Green King IPA and 6X were reasonably well kept and most tasty! As noted by previous reviewers, the inside is atmospheric and on our visit yesterday warmed by a good open fire. The food was proper pub food. We had steak and mushroom pie the meat was plentiful and of excellent quality, and the veg was simple but satisfying. A neighbouring table had the shoulder of lamb which looked fantastic if enormous! The homemade bread and butter pudding rounded off a good, old fashioned pub meal brilliantly.

In short, warm atmosphere, good beer, great food what a pub should be.

Pedigree, gkipa, 6X (good condition). Lovely low-beamed bar, huge inglenook containing a piano(!) and a wood burning stove. Separate fireplace next to the bar was simmering nicely last night offering the pub that homely charred wood smell well, I like it. The room to the right looks primarily for dining and, indeed, even in the bar all tables but one were taken by diners and that last was reserved, although, as wed asked about food, the young barmaid came & found us in the garden when that group were a no-show (18:30 booking lapsed at 19:00, which is fair). We decided to eat although dont think wed have needed to. Glad we did as we, too, spotted the lamb shoulder and it was just as delicious as Glenco describes and, with nicely cooked veg, was a good tenners worth (fishermans pie was the other remaining special). They happily wrapped the knuckly remnants for my dogs but I unfortunately left them at the next pub, where Im sure the resident lab was grateful. Outside, the garden is extraordinary with a river running through and a bridge leading to a grassy verge beyond. Ducks quack around and we spottted the large carp, the scene must be even more idyllic in daylight! Deffo leans toward foodie pub with some hoorah clientele but the beer was good as was the busy atmosphere. I read that it suffered a terrible fire in 06, but the effects are hardly noticeable and this is still a good pub risen from the ashes.

Great food here..! Varied choice listed of half a dozen specials, all priced at 10. If you're eating, try the Shoulder of Lamb... the meat just fell off the bone... delicious..! Have popped in occasionally for a beer over the years, always well-kept, but haven't been here since the pub reopened and this was the first time for eating. It was so good that I returned a few days later with my other daughter and her boyfriend for a second helping..! Seems to have a strong following of locals, all of whom were served ahead of my trying to settle my tab..! Still, it was all good-natured and that's how it is in my local too..! (The Misbourne flows thro the back beer garden and has been widened into pond containing large carp. Plenty of ducks and stuff to feed, so good for families with kids too).
