Lured by the prospect of a CAMRA award winning real ale pub, and one which we had heard had a dart board, my good lady and I ventured forth to the Queen's Head. I have to say a recent refurbishment appears to have taken some of the soul out of the pub with a relatively plain feel to the place. There is an attractive fireplace and traditional furniture but something was missing. The ale selection was OK but where they did score points was the interesting array of European bottles. The staff were friendly and accommodating but in terms of pub experience maybe I had my hopes set too high.

After the New Welcome Sailor we walked down the back streets and into the Queens Head.
The Queens is the other pub that appears in the 2014 GBG after New Welcome Sailor.
4 ales on the pumps which were Dark star Hophead & Original, Red Fox Brewery Coggeshall Gold & Wibblers Providence IPA, as well as the ales there is a good range of Belgium bottled beers with one of them on offer at over 10%...I may try that next time!
We were greeted by a very friendly & chatty landlord who was only to happy to stand & chat with us.
There’s wooden floors throughout, a mini size pool table and a dart board.
Nice collection of pewter pint pots hanging above the bar as well as a large selection of pump clips from beers they have had on…some really interesting beers here.
Food is served in the form of huffers (large rolls).
We stopped for 2 pints and both of my Red Fox Brewery Coggeshall Gold were excellent. A cracking little pub that is worthy of it’s place in the GBG, again this will be on my radar on my next visit to Burnham.

I used to visit this pub regularly. The landlord has done a marvellous job in restoring it into a proper back street boozer, with simple food including 'Essex Huffers'. The beer range was fantastic.
However, his son has taken to running it and we now have to put up with loud music and an unfriendly attitude from him. This used to be a pub where conversation and good beer ruled. Maybe it's changed since my last visit but it certainly was not the pub it was. Beer still top notch though.

Cracking little back street boozer, serving several good qualilty ales, mostly local in clean, tidy and traditional surroundings. Bar staff and locals alike very friendly. Well worth coming away from the river side pubs to find this one, as the best drinking pub in Burnham, if not the best situated.

Back street boozer with dart board, pool table and magnificent selection of ales. I went for the Hophead which was excellent (in an oversized glass too). Very accommodating and helpful landlord. Huffer was great (if I remembered the word correctly) and the cooked food looked very good indeed. The outside area was a bit dingy but still a great pub.

Well run backstreet boozer..friendly, local, choice of well priced micro-brewed beers and good pub grub...pretty good all rounder.

The pub has now undergone an extensive re-furb which has improved the use of space, improved the lighting and updated the furnishings.
4, ever changing, real ales and 1 cider are on the menu
A great boozer and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Vastly improved back street boozer - well done landlord!
The beer quality is tip-top and a good variety of (mainly) local brews are on offer. (And the Huffers are indeed excellent)
If visting the area put this on your "must visit" list.

new landlord offers well kept ales usually from at east two local micros plus interesting guests. not easy to find tucked down side street, but well worth the effort.Huffers are excellent using home made bread.
