A beautifully maintained traditional pub , but sadly in the wrong place .

Sadly now closed. Another PubCo victim due to overpiced poor beer.

First things first - yes, the Redoubt is a wonderful old pub with multiple (4) drinking rooms clad in lovely old dark wood which makes for a quite stunning interior. Elsewhere, there are plenty of aged sporting photos of the pub's Sunday League team from the 80's, plus a jukebox and two TV's.
However it's badly let down by the beer - 3 were on (Tetley Mild, Tetley Bitter and Tim Taylor Landlord), perhaps not an awe-inspiring line-up but solid enough. I tried both the Mild (on the turn) and Landlord (lifeless). At 2.80 a pint for the Landlord as well I wasn't impressed. A long way from Good Beer Guide standard! Clearly no quality control going on here.

Worth a look for the interior but on this evidence I'd stick to something bottled whilst you're in there. I really wanted to like this place too, shame.

I've been in this pub a few times over the years. Always found it full of great locals having a laugh and enjoying the good beer on offer. I went in last week and all of that had gone. What is normally one of the busiest nights of the week and it was dead, the landlady (I know it was her because I spoke to her briefly) wasn't welcoming at all - quite the opposite. Beer isn't what it was either. It's lost the atmosphere that it had, no longer is it the warm welcoming pub I remember.
If you're doing the Westgate run, I give this a miss. There's is no real reason to visit. Move on to the next pub! Sharpish.

A wonderful traditional pub, on the edge of the city centre. Comprised of four small, low-ceilinged rooms, it has a truly cosy, comfortable atmosphere.
A regular Good Beer Guide entry for many years.
Three regular ales: Tetley Mild, Tetley Bitter and Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord'. Good 'Landlord'- fresh and well pulled, but just on the edge of being too cold, for my taste, to be perfect.
Unfortunately, a rather sullen, unwelcoming barmaid on my visit.
As the start of the locally infamous 'Westgate Run', it probably gets horrendously busy at times over the weekend.
Highly recommended.

without doubt a superb traditional pub serving excellent beer. Go here to drink good beer, laugh, be made welcome, be insulted, feel at home. Enjoy

The start of the Westgate Run. One of the best Real Ale pubs in Wakefield. Friendly & quaint.

Beautiful beer served in a traditional pub which has the added attraction of being steeped in Rugby League memorabilia. Well worth a visit.

A classic pub! Divided up nicely into a meandering spread of snugs and lounges. The atmosphere is great and the Tetley Mild is second to none. I visited in October and would recommend this pub to anyone visiting Wakefield.

Currently our favorite pub which acts as a collection point for lads (old blokes really) from all over the North Of England. Very fine Timothy Taylors beer. Excellent chip shop near by.
