Getting the praise it deserves after a lot of hard work inside and outside. Well worth a visit and just a short detour from the Tourist route through Cobham

Visited a few times now. The new owners tell me they got the pub reopened about a year ago and the effort they have put in certainly shows. Well stocked with real ales St Austell Tribute and Adnams Broadside plus a guest ale always well kept. The pub is a freehouse so good choice and cheap for the area. Interior has a welcoming real fire as well as wood burner so cosy in the winter. The garden has been completely redone with play area and animals to appeal to families yet it has the ambience of a local country boozer. Excellent pub food well priced with a wide ranging menu and the usual Sunday roasts. Good to see a pub reopened and not as a gastro pub or part of a major chain of look-a-like soul-less establishments . This pub has character and I am sure characters. Well worth finding as off the beaten track but it has good parking and walkers and cyclists appreciate this diamond in the Kent countryside. The owners deserve a pat on the back for re-opening The Golden Lion as a genuine English Country Pub.

Our walking group has visited this pub various times over the years. I would say it was formerly all right. Now there has been a vast improvement. It is very friendly, the food plentiful and very tasty (I had tomato pudding and never even heard of that before but was really good). A dozen of us descended on them with barely an hour's notice, but the table was set waiting for us. Those of us who always moan were not moaning ; those of us who moan were all saying what I good experience it was. The beer was Tribute and Broadside, both in good condition. We were well looked after by two ladies. It was not even expensive. With pubs closing down all over the place, and a lot of those remaining devoting themselves, often badly, to food, this place is to be commended. The one thing that remains the same - the roaring log fire. I saw never seen, or felt , a better fire. Strongly recommended.

Nice pub in an isolated spot. They had a big fire going when we visited on a cold day, it was really chucking out some heat. St.Austell Tribute was fine, they also had Adnams Broadside on pump. Food was good and pretty cheap too. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Have been to the Golden Lion twice recently. What a transformation. The place has really been smartened up and you get a warm welcome. Enjoyed Adnams Broadside and St Austells Tribute ale. Well priced pub grub too. The garden is excellent. New owners I gather. Will be back soon.

I don't normally post a comment unless I have a drink in a pub, but I visited this place one lunchtime to find no real ale on offer and the soft drink dispenser had broken. So after a walk of several miles to get here we left for the Cock up the road.

I actually did query the price and the reply was unprintable. Yes mistakes do happen but to be met with the response I had ..... hence the coment

I have read Martin Lintons review with regard to pricing at the Golden Lion and have to say it is suprising, as not only is there is a pricelist hanging on the main bar, but the real ale has been 3.00 a pint,1.50 for half, since the new landlord has been in there just before Christmas 2010. I have checked the price of a tonic water and this is listed at 1.10p, so at the worst way Mr Lintons round should only have been 2.60p??? Clearly a mistake had been made, and would have been simpler to have mentioned this to the landlord rather than to post a nasty comment, so soon after bringing this pub back to life after being closed for a long time.

wanted 5.00 for half of bitter and a tonic water - you didn't get my money and I won't be back

Haven't visited for a couple of years until recently, looks like in need of some investments, was greeted by a massive dog when entering the bar , also noticed that someone assume staff was having their haircut in the pub, not sure if this is a regular service!!!!

The "other" pub in Luddesdowne, and rather in the shadow of the Cock which is a pity. A quiet, friendly place in a delectable location -real countryside but easy to get to from Junction 2 on the M2. Take the road into the hills running west from Cuxton, and persevere until you meet the pub. Large car park.

This pub has had a new Land Lady since last Christmas and has improved alot since then.Quite a friendly and relaxing place with a few Ales on tap, not sure what they were as I don't drink them. Had a good lunch here and there's a large Garden fro the kids. Recommended.

This place has one of the most picturesque settings you could ask for. It's not a bad pub, but it could make so much more of itself. I don't know it well, but with some money spent on improving the interior and a bit of imagination in all directions, it could be on of the gems of Kent; as it is, it's ordinary.
