2 beers on tap, last time I went in. All you need to know.

This is not a 'pub' it's a tastless hollow bar frequented by young impressionable, life inexperienced people. It shouldn't be on the website!

Great place. Closed daytime recently but opened for england v paraguay game. Chilled, relaxed, friendly place. Used to be good food and drink always top. Bit of a trek but worth it. The foreign manager is so weird but always worth a laugh. Great place gone down a bit lately but still a well-decorated, fun place.

Moody staff, a poor range of beers. (i.e. only 2 on tap.) Small.
I only ever go in of a Friday afternoon when the place is empty and sit down and relax with a couple of friends in the very pimp upstairs lounge area. So, OK, if you know when to go in. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother. The "over 21" appears not to be terribly stringent, by the way.

Bar 33 is reminiscent of Sophie ellis Bextor. It has all the right bits in all the right places but, somehow, when they are all put together they just don't work! Take the clientele for example. From a distance they appear to be a cosmopolitan and eclectic mix of people, a far cry from the unbearable infestation of chavs found not so far down the road at Yates's and Edwards. However, closer inspection reveals the customers to be, like the establishment itself, pretentious, soulless and shallow. But this bar used to be an enjoyable and dynamic place to go! Does it's rapid decline in charm coincide with the reign of a (slightly seedy looking) manager? The time scale would back such a theory! But don't take my word for it. For just 5 you can experience this for yourself in a venue the size of a living room with music as poor as I've heard. Enjoy!

oOne of the best bars in Colly but that's hardly saying very much. Poor drink selection but the staff are friendly and the decor is great. Decent crowd and the friendliest bouncers in town. The manager is a bit of a mini Hitler though. Just a bit more stupid though. Has the ability to ruin what is otherwise great night spot.

Quality venue as either a pre Hippo/Route warm up or a final destination in itself. The refurbishment they had in June '04 has upped the class stakes a lot and it is now arguably one of the nicest looking bars in Colchester. Good, chilled out crowd, doesnt seem to be as busy as it used to, probably becasue they have made in over 21's. Still a great place though and loads better than the bombsite that is the Hippodrome.
Overall, a top place and a personal favourite.

Colchester's third vaguely-passable late-opening bar (if you also count Edwards + Chicago's (?!)). Like the others it's too small, but another step in the right direction for poor old Colch.
