Lovely old building with plenty of space. I find Joules range rather bland so always look out for the guest beers. Unforuntaly none on offer on our last visit yesterday.

Still a good pub with a rage of ales, I had Joules 'Long Shot' a decent beer.

Great local ales, the seasonal Porter from Joule's brewery was a treat when I visited in December 2013. However, a return visit on March 1st presented us with a 'No children' policy despite our intention to savour the excellent home cooking I remembered from December - no mention of this on the website - and the surly response from the staff remains a theme: Lichfield's 'oldest pub' clearly clings-on to some traditions others have moved on from to be successful. Ambiance is important = 6/10

Pleasant pub with character, good range of ales. Spacious smoking area. Friendly staff.

You will find 10 hand pulls in here 3 for Joules beers so I had a very nice pint of Slumbering Monk for 3.00. I cider on draught. Nice to see a Mild on sale which in this case it was Titanic but I didn't have time to sample it. Another MUST visit. In the GBG 2013.

This pub was once one of Lichfields busiest but a series of poor landlords saw the place go downhill and eventually close. Joules have done a great job bringing the pub back to life and the refurb is superb as it keeps all the original features. The split level bar is large with plenty of seating and the smaller lounge is cosy. The beer is fabulous, the food is great (try the pork pie) and the atmoshere is brilliant. The only thing missing is all the old regulars. If I have one complaint it's that I don't recognise a soul in there - where have they all gone? Highly recommended.

I have visited this old Davenport's pub several times now and feel I can safely say that the place is in good hands. The range of beers is eclectic and they are all in good nick. The bar is spacious and simply kitted out, the lounge is somewhat more cramped, particularly on a Saturday night but this doesn't matter much as the beer is splendido. Pay it visit, you will find it rewarding.

Couldn't agree more with previous contributor. Lovely refurb, great beer (they had 6 on I think on my visit). Nice to see a few new decent pubs in the city.

The Duke of York re-opened on 4th December after a superb restoration and refurbishment. Until Joules beers come on line about March the pub is selling 4 ever changing guest beers and attracting a very good quality of clientelle. Hosts Wendy and Paul Weston are doing an excellent job and the pub has been busy since day one.

Joules Brewery have purchased The Duke of York pub from owners Punch Taverns. They plan to reintroduce their own beer (after a 30 year absence in Lichfield) before the end of the year.

R.I.P once a great Davenport's house now up for sale.
