@ 'David' "The security is good, with CCTV cameras monitoring continuously to ensure your safety."
How does CCTV ensure anyone's safety? More like the contrary where people wear hoodies to hide from the CCTV and hence are harder to identify from any angle by witnesses who're actually there themselves, not sitting watching CCTV in a control room miles away with the camera pointed in the wrong direction (etc). CCTV is next to worthless, get it? Bouncers are better, the combination is OK, but stop spouting the brainwashed line that CCTV makes you safer. If it doesn't stop Joe Bloggs from having those extra two pints of stella or physically shield you, then it doesn't make you safer, get it?

This venue is now trading as the Hayfield Massala - not a pub at all any more!
|
why dont they justb renme tower hamlets sylhet and be done with it--why are cockneys the only ones notallowed to have a culture

"Ahmed" says it all really!
|
another one of the pubs that has closed in this area in the last 12months. I have no idea what is going to happen to it, it is just boarded up.
|
OK, its been a year since I went here. Tried to get in tonight and told same old shit. They needed photo ID and a picture taken. The only people who carry photo ID are students, so why not just say thats all you want to let in? The laugh is the hired muscle explaining that the three forms of acepted ID on the door are only for under 18 year olds but not being able to explain what ID men of 28 are expected to walk around with. A dive.
|
Ahmed ruined this place. Congrats, you fat bastard.
|
This place has gone way downhill since my last review 3 years ago! I understand (but don't especially agree with) being charged a couple of quid to get in on a weekend night, but me and my friend have been in the week recently and are still charged and still had to have our photos taken! It seems a bit much as I know the people who run another Scream bar in Greenwich and it's free entry and there's none of this photo-taking lark.
|
Me and my mates meet up at the Hayfield alot. None of us are students we are all adults in our mid 20s. Although it can be a bit pricey overall its a nice atmosphere and we have enjoyed socialising there for the last 3 years or so. Even better now you cant smoke in there so we dont go home reraking of fag smoke. Bogs could do with more of a clean though.
|
Please clean this pub, the bar flies are gross, everywhere is sticky. The toilets are rancid. knock it down!
|
This pub has been going downhill for a while now - first 1 to get in, then 3, then 5. They can't actually tell you what this money is for other than saying 'my boss says' over and over again. They insist on photo ID 'in case you cause trouble'. Can't see how that helps really after the event. They try emotional blackmail like 'its 3 to get in but we've raised it to 5 and the extra 2 is going to cancer research'. All in all what used to be a pretty lively decent place to go on a weekend has turned into a joke. The final straw was being told all the pubs in the area are asking for ID and covercharges - No they are not.
|
Ideas far above their station, new ideas including 5 entry fee for non-students (you know the people actually have money) and you must have a photo ID to get in, I wonder what kind of person would carry a photo ID with them on a night out? A student maybe... Thought I had taken a wrong turn and ended up in the West End at that price to get in and requirements. Real shame but this place has turned it's back on locals and regulars.

Good pub apart from the beer if that makes any sense? I like ale, so I wasnt going to slate this place forthe lack thereof cos I know its a Scream pub. But last time I went in here, there was almost no beer? The place is decked out really well and is spacious with plenty of pool tables. Food was ok. Nothing spectacular but did the job. But the staff didnt speak much English and as I said, severe lack of beer, which is ridiculous. Other times Ive been here the selection was bog standard. But I would go again despite this cos of other factors mentioned.
|
Great pub, and I agree that it's arguably the best pub for miles around. A bit pricey (and I'm not a student) so makes you wonder at times how the students afford to go in there, but still it's a great pub. I've been going here for about 15 years, am probably the oldest person in there most days (I'm trendy though!) and still it feels like home. Thats gotta be a good pub!
|
great pub. great staff. friendly atmosphere, which is alot more then can be said for most pubs down mile end road these days.
|
Great pub with a great manager.
If you fancy a laugh phone the pub on 0207 7800011 and ask for the manager.
Then ask him if hes interested ibn changing his energy supplier.
Don't do it when your Mums in the room though. The language will shock her!
|
Been in here a few times and it's not bad, Particularly if you're a student like myself. Friendly staff and decent prices.
|
probably the best pub in the area.
Has become the unofficial student bar and has a good vibe about the place. Good for the football as has two big screens (unless game is in daylight when one screen as literally unwatchable).
I would recommend checking out the place as it is probably the coolest place to go.
|
Yeah, nice place, but hardly somewhere you'd want to go more than once or twice a month. Good food - if you're a student - and a nice trusting fat bloke as manager who once locked us in to look after the place for about ten minutes.

This is an 'It's a Scream' pub, and therefore has fairly decent food, lots of fruit machines, a jukebox, and giant Jenga and Connect 4. This pub has a nice atmosphere and there is very little trouble as the clientele is mainly made up of students. The bouncers on the door are friendly and helpful and there are often student discount nights where all drinks are 1. I would recommend dropping in, particularly on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday as it is open until 2AM.

I stumbled across this pub by acident. It was a THursday night and the DJ was rocking. Some classic rock to new rock, also a bit of hip hop and some dance but mostly rock.
The bar staff are freindly as are the doormen and its pretty good for sports veiwing as well, because I went back!!!!!
Worth a visit especially on Thursday nights...

Excellent vibe at The Hayfield. Cheap drinks, bouncers at the door to keep it friendly, lots of QMC students but best of all, excellent bands Wednesday nights. Bleeding Hearts, Victims of Noise, Amy Abdou, Buddhas of Suburbia... so many top as well as up and comings bands play The Hayfield simply because it's a cool place to play. I've heard they're to have a music festival one Saturday this autumn, bands and acoustic acts will play all day. Beer is good, even if they dont do real ales, who needs "real Ales" anyway? Mark is a sweety and the bar staff are cool. Mostly, I go for the atmosphere and music!!

The Hayfield Pub.
The Hayfield pub is an amazing place to Socialise. The Hayfield is apart of the Scream Chain of Pubs which means it is primarily focused at students. The Hayfield is also the seat of Club Government for the International Filth Club.
The great thing about a pub such as this is that it encapsulates people from all back grounds.
It is a shame that dead-beats from out of London (Alex) feel the need to insult the native peoples of East London that frequent the Hayfield and refer to them as idiots when they clearly are not. Seems to me some one has some outlining issues to sort out.
The need to have "Big Blokes" on the door is to ensure that no one but students get in, thus creating an environment that is not intimidating to students that are not native to London itself. Lets face it, if they did not have "Big Blokes" on the door, checking for student ID, then the East end Idiots that Alex is referring to would probably get in and Alex would most probably find himself getting 10 bells of crap kicked out of him either in the pub or some where down the Mile End road.
It is funny that Alex should mention the Music in the pub because when the "intelligent few students" get hold of the duke box they play the same crap as the East London Students too. It would appear that Alex is clearly talking out of his bottle of glass again thus showing that the music can't be all that crap if 99% of the pub are listening to the same thing out of choice. Seems to me that some one wants to listen to Xfm. Welcome to the Hayfield, we don't do Xfm son.
As for Alex's gripe about the NUS card and Yellow card being requested at the same time. SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Some one is talking crap AGAIN! God spare me! BUY A BLOODY YELLOW CARD YOU MUG! If you brought a yellow card in the first place you would not need anything else.
It is as simple as that. Look it works like this:
-Non Students Pay 3
-Students with out a yellow card pay 1 as long as they have student ID.
-Yellow card holders go in free.
There. The yellow card gives you cheap booze, free cover and no bollocks. Seems some people have Led Arse Syndrome. Lazy Xfm listeners.
As for the Rocket. The Rocket is a nice scream Pub to but it is small, boring and lacks any life or character which might say something about the punters it attracts. Wouldnt you agree Alex? Sure you would.
Oh and by the way, under 18's don't get in as they can't get their hand son yellow cards of student ID so don't worry about under age drinking. The Hayfield does not permit it.
Eastend Idiot - 27 Sep 2004 19:58 |
This pub/bar has been around for sometime now. Its part of the scream chain of pubs that you see up and down the country where ever students are likely to live nearby. In the First couple of months of term - this place can be a lot of fun. However, things change - for some reason the place feels the need to have big blokes on the door ready to charge you money if you don't have both your NUS and your Yellow Card! I mean surely if you have one on your person that should be good enough. how many cards do we need to carry around with us? The atmosphere can be great fun - but all too often the place is full of local East End Idiots who seem to think Usher is the best thing since sliced bread! So crap music is often played. When the intelligent few students do get hold of the juke box to play some music of some class. The Music will then be turned up too loud so despite good music - you can no longer hear what the person to you is saying! I mean if this place had a dance floor this would be acceptable - but it doesn't so lets turn it down a notch - and delete all that rnb crap from the jukebox. Lets stop letting under 18's in. This place would do much better if it was like its sister pub the rocket - unfortunatly its not.

Some of the greatest up and coming bands in the world can be found in the hayfield - Oasis, REM, Toto and Kefranski have all played here.

great live music on Wednesday nights. Top bands!!

I LOVE THE HAYFIELD! A great local hangout for us QM students and those snobby medics down the road. Tuesday night pound nights are always packed and full of fun! (Terry is okay, but Sam is a cutie)
Laura - 7 Jul 2004 21:57 |
Well when everything else is shut then this is still open. But other than that its a nightmare. Yeah I'm young, yeah I have just finished being a student, but NO I don't want to spend my evenings watching people sit around like a large common room smoking, and generally acting like 12 year olds. If you don't get there before 9 then they charge you to get in. The doormen are nice enough - there is never any trouble. You will hardly ever find anywhere to sit in the evening, and the drink line takes about 20 minutes to filter to the front. Never tried the food but its bog standard burger and chips and a beer sort of stuff which is okay if you like it. If you want some different food then Sizzlers just up the road is better. Worth a try. Pub is overall - a bit iffy. Student orientated and alright if you like that - otherwise best avoided. IF you are a student pay the 1 for a student yellow card and get big reductions off of your drinks and free entry after 9.

I Had a brilliant night. dont understand why all these old people are complaining. the barstaff are fit (especially Terry)... Cheap deals for students... all very well complainig about being to old but its a student bar!!! TOP STUFF!
Alan Thornton - 23 Jan 2004 04:46 |
The doormen wouldn't let me in without student ID - the first time I have been refused entry to a pub for being too old! Looks terrible inside anyway (sour grapes) - go to the nearby Old Globe instead
Fiona - 14 Jan 2004 10:43 |
A terrible pub, one of the worst in the area. To be avoided for its mix of students, their friends behind the bar and local Gooner massive. Pool is overpriced, in particular a ridiculous 1.20 a game for the novelty L-shaped table. 'Fitter' barmaids at the gay pub a few doors down quite frankly.
Sunny - 22 Jul 2003 21:15 |
Scream is frequented with students and is a good place to go any night of the week. The security is good, with CCTV cameras monitoring continuously to ensure your safety. They serve the best food in Stepney Green for next to nothing, there is always a lively atmosphere and there are pool tables for those Jimmy Whites among us!!!Go and check it out for yourself...(The barmaids are also really fit!!!)
