Gents toilets were perfectly sound on my visit too. Clean and not smelly.

Fine.

Nobody at the bar if you come in the proper entrance; but customers soon point you towards the back bar.

Decent pint of Adnams at £2.60. Not as cheap as some suburban Wetherspoons but better than the City. Also had Thatchers cider - part of their cider festival.

Customers seemed to be proper old school Brits, which was different to the prevailing "teetotal" ethnicity on the streets.

Decent spoon's, very large inside with 2 bars...but the front bar if you come in the "old fashoined" way is normally not open for service which means you have to use the back bar.

This can get very busy and service can be slow..in fact all 8 times I have been in the bar back I have waited between 5 and 15 mintues to be served...people always want food in these establishments!

2 or 3 decent ales on every visit and is worth a look.

Very close to Stepney Green tube.

I was with DME that afternoon and I was the poor git trying to get served! I know Wetherspoon's tactics regarding beer, but not to have a single real ale on tap was bloody awful! If you like nitro beer then good for you but I prefer something with taste, thank you very much. And I won't be calling again.

Called in with a couple of friends on Saturday afternoon, January 29th. I've seen worse interiors for Wetherspoons franchises but for beer, this experience was a complete joke. Out of a total of 6 guest real ales on the bar, a grand total of 0 were available to sample !!!

There was only one female member of staff serving (although another girl and a guy showed up 10 minutes later). How the hell is it possible to have half a dozen barrels unavailable at the same time please?

Amazingly, there were still a couple of dozen locals in. God only knows what rubbish they were on !!!

a really supringly high level of quality here, consideing the area, and considering the fact its a 'wetherspoons' too.

very well done up, great use of the space its in. has a very decent selection of beers and lagers on tap and in bottles. the outside area is decent too, you really dont think your on or around miled end road when there.

downside: is its quite souless though. it is well done, but its still a very 'paint by numbers' wetherspoons place, and it almost has the feel of a costa coffee or starbucks inside.

plus points: amazing value, some wonderfully cheap prices and offers on everything, including food. the place serves breakfast from 7am and alcohol from 9am! perfect starting point for an all day east end pub crawl :)

If using the Gents, take Wellies and some smell reducing equipment for mouth and nose. Always awash with piss, which spoils an otherwise good pub.

A surprisingly decent pub for the area but that's not saying much. Despite it's pleasent decor and size it hasn't got the best atmosphere due to the punters that seem to frequent it. One good point is the outside seating which is quite nice for the odd couple of drinks in the summer.

Not a pub i want to go into again! Lacks atmosphere especially the Chapel bar. My pint of tanglefoot was cloudy and poor in taste. Left without asking for a replacement.

Lots of old men welded to their seats in the front bar, but more life evident at the back. Nice pint of Winchester bitter (not sure which brewery this came from), and sat outside in the courtyard (must be something to do with global warming - I can't imagine doing this 20, or even 10, years ago in mid-March). Overall, rather better than I expected.

Absolutely amazing how this pub has changed over the last couple of years! Pub manager is a nice chap, could possibly spend more time behind the bar. Most of the staff have a polite and positive disposition, the tables are clear and food service is fast. The chapel bar could do with a few less drunks and broken seats but overall a big thumbs-up!

one word, terrible. Almost strangled a cat after i left, Mr Whetherspoon please do something! (no animals were actually harmed during my visit, only my will to live)
dougster - 16 Nov 2006 13:40
Front bar often full of drunks but bright airy back bar and seating outside with a bit of atmosphere. Excellent range of Ales at Good prices (Wetherspoons get somethings right!)but seem to run out regularly. Bar staff can be a bit slow and unhelpful. Stands out in an area not renown for good pubs.

This is easily the most depressing place i have ever visited. The bar staff are unhelpful, miserable, uncharismatic jobs worths. The beverages are ok providing you haven't got a complaint, otherwise you might have to actually prove it in court for the amount of trouble it causes. The food served on your plate barely exists and if it does its either cold or frazzled. To top it all, staff helpfully clean around you when it is dead and dump huge empty boxes next to you should you be still be silly enough to stay here anywhere near closing time. It's like a library without books and Mcdonalds without the burgers. If you are contemplating whether life is worth living -don't come in here, it might just finish you off.

We visited this pub recently and were well impressed. Busy front bar, seems to be popular with the old'uns. Nice conservatory linking the big old front bar with the modern back bar. we sat in the conservatory which is great as u get to have a good nosey around and can see the action in both bars. Food was great, even though my first choice wasnt available, the chef came out and apologised and offered an alternative. Cheap drinks too.

Only downside is toilets were a bit slippy, either urinals splash while they flush or a lot of bad aimers in there!!

I go in this pub a fiar bit because it's over the road from where we work. Nothing to write home about, but I'm glad it shows the football now (provided the guy who owns the dish is at home and turns the sky on!). Usman one of the managers is lovely. Just don't sit in the corner by the ladies because that's the resident drunk's seat

Good place to start a night out as cheap and quiet. Gets very busy on a Friday... unfortunately quite a few obvious under-age people in there but they seem to be served!
The_Hitman - 31 Mar 2005 18:01
My uni haunt. Not bad inside, pity that the newer half of the pub isn't completely non-smoking. Staff are either really good or shit. Food is what you expect from wetherspoons. Nearly always a problem with our food but being students we just get on and eat it!!
te02107 - 23 Nov 2004 14:52
Have visited several times. The beer and food are what you expect from a Wetherspoon's good quality at cheap prices. Decor and facilities are pleasant.

It's OK, good prices and not bad interior, nice little area outside that would be good in the summer, far enough from the main road to be enjoyable. Offers food, which would probably also be..average, cooked by a rather dirty looking male and a huge friendly looking female. 'Manager' is a miserable woman who runs the place like it's...not anywhere you'd want to be for very long. Try and avoid being served by her if you're under about 50 as she appears to have an extreme dislike for anyone younger than her, which must be most of the regulars considering its location...

If she tries to clear out early, question her, and watch her try and deny that she wants to clock off dead on closing time. Entertainment sorted.

Nice enough for a whetherspoons. Food is usually quite slow arriving, though is usually quite good. Drinks are very cheap and the decor is kind of cool. Gets very packed at lunch with students from near by uni, also in the evening when people go to eat and have a few bevvies before going on somewhere else. Close to the tube, friendly bar staff (well most of them) and nice atmosphere. But just an average Whetherspoons - not much character really.
Lucy - 20 Feb 2004 13:19
Yeah, not a bad Wetherspoons. Split into different sections and has a patio outdoors. Cheap very cheap.
monty - 28 Nov 2003 16:34
i like the pub its nice in side and also out side i go there nearly evey week we and my mates i thinks its nice to have a drink and also in the summer u can st outside and have a drink

The Half Moon (which is a wetherspoons)is a very lively, well decorated pub situated 200m from Stepney Green Tube Station. The drinks are inexpensive,as is the food, which is well prepared and presented (and very, very tasty!!!).This place is a must for the younger generation in Stepney Green and is jam packed on Friday and Saturday nights (and most nights through the week).
