A small one room pub at the far side of the town, not far from the A24. The brick built bar is on the lefthand side with seating in front and to the side which includes a fruit machine. At the back of the pub is a gaming area with a pool table and dartboard. There were 3 real ales on the bar, including Caledonian Double Black. It is a local's pub but is friendly and inviting. It is also comfortable and worth a visit.

A fantastic little lady runs this pub and two old codgers on trips from Reigate say it is a great place for a beer
|
a proper locals boozer...welcoming staff and a couple of locals gave a cheery hello...
had 3 beers on pump, one being a guest ale...right temp and clear, though the taste was grim (it was a Scottish one ;-) )
Pool table and darts and Sky...not a bad place for a session,
would re visit if on a pub crawl...

Rousey is entitled to his/her views - and has hit the nail firmly on the head with the first sentence regarding the Prince.
The later analysis of the boorish customer base is also, sadly, accurate. Most of the jobless and deprived (of Ladbrokes) customers have nothing better to do but comment on new faces.
As most of these oldish blokes are single/divorced, female visitors are closely scrutinised/analysed - by these witless idiots (not all) who fall into the categories mentioned by Rousey.

I was wondering what the word "rascist" might mean? (Did he mean misogynistic?)
|
Dear lord Rousey.
If you get all bent out of shape about comments like 'christ you don't get many women in here' you had better stay at home wrapped in cotton wool as you will find offence to be taken every where.
|
What a fantastic pub, its a lovely little local with some fantastically friendly staff and a couple of well kept beers. Pity the place is ruined by the sexist, rascist punters. Hearing people say 'christ you don't get many women in here' and other comments about race I would not wish to repeat when you walk into a boozer does not make for a good first impression. Unless you are a white male local I am afraid you are better of leaving this place alone. It hurts not to give this a higher score but we simply did not enjoy the visit.

Not having been in for a while (I don't live close by} I went in again last week. What a pleasure it is to visit a 'real pub'. Do make a point of having a pint if you're close by!
|
Still a fine, friendly and well run local - slightly off the beaten track.
|
Went in for a couple earlier this week - still excellent. A pub as pubs once were.
|
Yes, this is a little gem - run by Sheila, Dorking's best publican. Very active pool and darts teams and a friendly atmosphere, with mainly locals as customers. Parking is good nearby and the POW rolls and beer are excellent ; why can't more pubs be like this?
|
In Surrey this pub must be almost unique, it's totally genuine in fact a real pub that doesn't rely upon trying to be like a bistro. Visit this gem and give yourself a treat!
As an aside if there are other pubs similar to this in Surrey I would like to know about them.

An old-fashioned back-street pub, and none the worse for that. The sort of place that notices a stranger, but doesn't make them feel uncomfortable. Excellent pint of Pride, and well worth the walk southwards from Dorking town centre.

I would whole-heartedly agree with the comment below made by Reasonedview

I am surprised by the lack of recent reviews for the PoW. If you like a genuine small pub, with just one bar, and first class beers such as Pride and Deuchers, etc. I beg of you go here quickly in case someone tries to apply a touch of 'mayfair' to the pub.
This is a glorious, straightforward pub with what appears to be an excellent landlady, quality beers and excellent rolls served in clean surroundings with a pleasant atmosphere and locals who seem to spend their time taking the mickey out of each other.
I am going to give this place an 8/10 because it deserves it.

A welcoming back-street pub with good beer (Caledonian Deuchar's) and a better than average juke box.
|
Very much a friendly local. Get speaking to one person and soon you are chatting to the whole bar. Small, friendly and comfortable. In many ways similar to being in someone's front room and although this may seem daunting at first it's a great 'boozer' that I now love. Chav free and shows what seems to be all the big matches. Well recommended.

GGG's comments are over two years out of date - although the description and beers remain accurate. Recently changed hands, the pub has two TV's catering for different sports. Opening times are now 12-11, Monday to Saturday and 12-10.30, Sunday.
