We spent a lovely January evening here with friends from Sheringham.. large, friendly pub with a great (wholesome) food menu, that also specialises in gluten free dishes.. pie was amazing! Green king IPA. And a nice Fireside winter beer, plus Speckled hen on hand pull.. recommended..

Information: there are signs up in the pub saying that they are no longer opening Sunday evenings, but have extended Sunday lunch opening times till 4pm to compensate.

Visited here a couple of days ago. Warm and friendly place, with a selection of ales including Woodford's Nelson's Revenge and Greene King IPA. Fairly busy with diners, most of whom seemed to be oldies! We were put in the dark far room to eat which had its own fire going but was quieter. Good food and big portions. Tall chap who seemed to be in charge behind the bar was friendly but slightly maniacal!

Admittedly I only went for a couple of pints in the evening as we were staying locally. I was on my own but had a good book for company, and was looking forward to a pint of Woodruffe's or at a push Greene King. Unfortunately the landlady looked at me like I I'd landed from Mars and all but sneered as she passed the pint across the bar, I felt like I had to apologise for distracting her from the vital business of talking about the price of crabs with the one other drinking customer. I sat down with my beer (which was deeply average, lukewarm and tasted flat), the waiting staff then clocked off and gathered around the entire bar, which put me off venturing up to dare to ask for a refill. Then to cap it all the radio went on over the PA, 'tuned' to the local commercial tinpot FM station, playing some crappy dance track in scratchy reception. That was the last straw and I left, never to return...

A total gem of a pub and well worth seeking out. Very friendly service, this is a small village pub given more to food than the drinking though there was a choice of two real ales on my visit (one of which was Greene King IPA which I can't stand, but each to their own).
It is a compact little place but given that nearly all the tables were reserved when we arrived a little after 6:30 says a lot. There is a beer garden but they only serve sandwiches out there - maybe a problem with people taking off without paying? I'm purely speculating. Why you would want to do that in this delightful little place is beyond me.
Anyway, food-wise the pub is justifiably proud that most dishes on the menu are locally sourced and farmed. From what I could tell, everything was freshly made. For the reasonable prices (around �9-10 for a main course) the portion sizes are huge! Go with an empty belly and an open mind and you'll leave more than happy. I had a steak and ale pie followed by home made cheesecake. Both were huge and I really shouldn't have opted for the dessert but couldn't resist. My wife opted for grilled pork steaks the flavour of which was truly superb. Great ingredients simply cooked.
We'll definitely be going again next time we're in North Norfolk!

This pub is listed in all the good pub guides so I felt I was onto a winner driving here with my family on a fine April evening. With two small children in tow we prefer to eat in the beer garden so having settled at a table I approached the pub only to find a notice on the door saying 'we do not serve food to the beer garden in the evenings'. This explained why despite fine weather the beer garden was empty! A quick look round inside revealed low ceilings and tables packed closed together- not a venue for small children- so it was back in the car to eat elsewhere. We would have spent about �50 here on food and drink; so work it out, if just one carload an evening is driven away by their silly little notice they will lose about �9,000 of sales this summer. So my advice to the landlord is, don't be so ****ing lazy, get serving in the beer garden and stay in business!!
