user reviews of the Old Coach House, Southwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Old Coach House is either the first or last of 3 pubs you will find on Church Street. For me, it was the best of the 3. Rooms are spread around the central bar, with main bar area itself quite busy. But I still managed to find a table. The ale range was Rudgate Ostara, Sharps Doom Bar, Salopian Golden Thread, Cross Bay Sunset, Oakham Old Coach House Blonde & Newby Wyke Banquo. Another good pub.

great ever changing range of beers, from light ales such as Summer Lightening, through to milds or a porter. Usually at least one beer from Oakham Ales, good choice of wines, whiskies, and 2 lagers. Always friendly and inviting. Possibly the best pub I've been in for years.

Great pub, very good landlord and excellent beer - nothing more to be said!

the best real ale pub i've been in in many a year. real log fire 6 beautifully conditioned ales, friendly welcome from the bar staff and other customers. a great great pub. and to put the icing on the cake, it doesn't sell food! a good selling point is the landlord drinks and is passionate about his beer.

Excellent old fashioned pub in the very best sense. No food, no games machines, no TV. Music on sometimes at the weekend. I visited for the first time in April and have been going back since even tho' there is a 25 mile round trip involved. The beer is top notch, last time I sampled Ay Up from the Dancing Duck Brewery - outstanding. The landlord is friendly, as are the locals.

One of the few remaining 'Proper Pubs'. Always has a good selection of real ales from 3.6 to 5.9 from light to amber and occasional mild, most importantly Landlord has an enthusiasm for beer, cheese and nibbles early doors and more on a Friday nite. Good atmosphere well worth a visit only from 5pm on weekdays.

have been drinking in this pub for over twenty years on and off, seems now to be getting back to somewhere near its best !. noticed all the awards it's won but i am sure they were won when it was still an independent should not by the present owners. pub people's web site should be updated as they don't sell bass or a mild anymore.

Seemingly hard to fault - excellent real ale, interesting snacks from big jars, lovely building, but on 2 trips I've felt it lacked a bit of warmth/atmosphere. Worth a visit on trip to Southwell.

Top little pub. Pretty cosey and always welcoming. An excellent selection of beer on tap. Jenga. Friendly bar staff (apart from that bloody landlord who always takes the piss out of us!) Etc.

(By the way, "Etc." is short for "liberal closing times...")
