please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

One of those near perfect village pubs that you only normally find on biscuit tins.

Visited on Bank Holiday Monday following a bike ride on the nearby Flitch Way. The pub had a good range of ales including a guest (Nethergate Bar Fly), was child friendly and had a varied menu to cater for all tastes.

Can't agree with JTB as I found all the staff very pleasant and helpful. Guess you just picked a bad day.

Was recommended this place as a short bus ride from Great Dunmow where I was staying prior to an early Stansted flight next day. It opened right on the nail at 1730 on a Monday night as advertised (always gets a point!), the beer was good and the Steak and Kidney pud with three veg, just the ticket. Bus stop right outside the door for return journey.

Pity the bar staff and locals don't try to engage "strangers" in conversation, particularly as it wasn't busy. Maybe that's southerners for you!!

Charming village local with exposed beams, open fire etc. Beers good and usually 3 real ales on offer. Food is good value.

A pleasant little watering hole, off the beaten track and well away from the large new housing development in Little Dunmow. Pleasant inside with beams, log fire etc. Not a chain pub; a traditional village one.

Good choice of beers including London Pride, local ales and the usual lagers. Food more than adequate, and staff welcoming.

No complaints at all; worth a visit for a quiet pint.

Used to be a regular haunt of mine in younger days. Have started visiting again recently Pub itself, has an open fire and plenty of low beams, so wathch your noggin! Welcome is always friendly, and beer is of a high standard. Three are available, Fuller London Pride, A guest from a micro such as Cottage or Mighty Oak, and inevitably, given the area, Greene King IPA. The food, lunchtime and evenings is excellent and gives a fine choice of grub, from Paninis, through to Gammon or Steak & Kidney Pud. Prices are good value too. The Pub is a little off of the beaten track, but is the type of village local that is worth supporting if it is not to be lost altogether in future. Little Dunmow is also the original home of the famous Flitch Trials, now held every four years just up the road in Great Dunmow.

A superb little country pub. The ales are well kept and there is usually a guest ale to try. The food is excellent and keeps us coming back for more every time.

Pleasant and friendly old pub. The current licensees have been here two years or so and are working very hard to restore its reputation. Decent ale and food; bedrooms comfortable, though plumbing fittings a bit dated. The service 133 (Stansted Airport - Braintree) bus stops at the door.
