Well kept ales are the main draw here with perfectly drawn delights from the Old Hooky range. Otherwise, the place is pleasingly decorated in keeping with tradition and the service one saturday lunchtime was uncommonly helpful and affable. A very good place to wile away a few hours and an easy bus ride to and from Oxford if you, like me, are not especially impressed with the prospect of living in David Cameron's constituency with its appalling new shopping centre.

Really glad to visit this pub regularly. It is a treasure in the town centre.

Excellent little pub with super Hook Norotn beers. We enjoyed a couple of pints here and were soon chatting away with the friendly landlord and locals. The interior is classic Cotswold style stone and timber (dark but certainly not dingey). There is a small garden area at the rear for smokers. Prices for beer were very reasonable and th pub keeps "traditional hours" - it closes at 3pm during the week. Here again the proposed Wetherspoons may affect trade but I would serioulsy hope not as this is a very enjoyable little town pub with local beer and it well worth a visit. Recommended.

Never thought Id rave about such food, but we had a marvellous lunch at this quiet Hook Norton Brewery pub of the very best ham, eggs and chips that we can ever remember. The ham is soused in beer and then baked and served with Old Hooky Beer Mustard. The meat is delicate and has a wonderful flavour. We had a well-served glass of the seasonal mild HN SDM (its slightly sweet), followed by the prize-winning HN Double Stout. The server went especially to the cellar so that we could have it at room temperature rather than at the current fashionable chill. The stout is sweeter than Guinness and it went excellently with the food. The ladies toilets were spotless but the gents were a bit smelly. We received a warm, even charming, welcome from the landlady. Its a shame that this place isnt more widely known: you could easily walk past without noticing and it was under-occupied on a Saturday lunch-time. However, well be back.

A proper pub with good beer. A dying breed these days. It appears to be a Hook Norton tied or owned establishment. The Old Hooky was as good as it gets.

It probably is the best, good feel to the place and a good team working hard.

Probably the best pub in Witney. Good range of Hook Norton beer, good community atmosphere. Friendly staff. Definitely a 'proper' pub.
|
A really nice "old-man" type pub, with very friendly bar staff, good regulars and a good choice of Hook Norton ales, including Dark.
I've spent a lot of time staying in Witney for work, and this is my favourite "drinking" pub.

Excellent pub. Brilliant ales, well kept.
|
Lovely pub. Good beer.
|
Maybe the best place in Witney for beer. I mean *real* beer (ale)!

I keep coming back to this pub, It has become a home from home. The Hook Norton beer is great and they are always willing to serve it in a handle.
Since the Hollybush has gone upmarket in clientele the Eagle Tavern has taken on its former trade. The pub seems to be blossoming because of this.
Lovely pub and can get smoky, but this will change on 1st July and the smoking ban coming into force.

On my small pub-crawl of Witney last night this was my second and last pub (after about 3 more in between). Compared with others on Corn Street it sells an excellent selection of real ales at reasonable prices in a traditional venue with not too much noise. Compare my review of the 3 Horseshoes.

A pleasant, old-fashioned style pub offering Hook Norton ales.
|
A small Cotswold stone pub, which has recently changed hands, but still sells Hook Norton ales.
