A smallish lounge with the bar tucked into one corner. A fair selection of real ales. As it was Friday evening when I was there, they had a very good group performing.

I liked this place too. Five real ales on, but I just had the one pint of an NZ IPA. Can't remember the brewery but it was 5.5% so not I think Hawkshead. Good stuff though. We made it out before the band came on (Dirty Shoes).

Popular little pub even on an afternoon, very near the sea although it faces inland. A nice range of local beers and it also clearly has a lot of community spirit.
Re the previous entry, I suspect the pub was crowded becuase it is such a cracking little pub, I would have taken that as a good sign. This is the sort of place any discerning drinker would want as their local.
Overcrowded little place, could not get a drink because of the bar huggers refusing to let anyone in, in spite of the barmaid desperately trying to serve me. I'll not revisit there until they change their policy, and keep one bit of the bar vacant for service.

Good pub. A bit grubby but worth it.
Was quite shocked to find this closed over Christmas due to a fire. Relieved to say it is now open again and nothing has changed (apart from the slightest presence of new paint)! Business as usual - great beer, great atmosphere great pub!!
Liked this place. Mid afternoon on a weekday so the place wasn't too busy. Good selection of ales and those I tried were in good condition. The rottweiler (Rocky ?) is even friendly too. I can see why this pub would be very popular.
one of hove's best. great music, beer/ale choice and proper friendly locals. plus a big dog who loves crisps. it's the place we take non-locals to show them how good hove pubs can be. say no more.
Nice little pub with live music and good beer(Dark Star etc). Full of interesting characters.
Been here a couple of times and hope to be back many more. First time was on a Sunday and could hardly fit in with a decent band playing and good ales. The second time, a Saturday, much more comfortable and had a superb evening drinking Hophead and Bottle Wreck (unfortunately they repeated the same cd over) and were serving pretty late into the night with a good barmaid. Perhaps a musos pub but seems cozy for all?

This is a classic pub. Good atmosphere, good ale, friendly staff. Sorry to hear of the new manager comment from SeaDeeJay but only time will tell. The music has been excellent on the couple of times I've been there. Only one slight niggle; ten bar stools are fine if you expect ten customers but, when occupied, they are a real obstacle when there are over a hundred in there.

I have enjoyed The Nep for many years now. On Friday and Sunday evenings one can experience excellent live music. The locals are fabulous and on the whole full of character. The staff behind the bar are fun and friendly, however, sadly a new 'manager' is now in place. He is without question upsetting the staff and has a tendancy to be grumpy and rude. Even worse he knows very little about beer and has taken the decision to remove Dark Star Hophead, 'too expansive' and 'too much waste'. The current beer range is focused on dark, sweet, malty beer and is well kept.

What a pub is all about .ANY pub that has a picture of Rory Gallagher on the wall has to be a bit special ,always a good beer selection and a real atmosphere ..careful when visiting the gents though ! those steps are something else

Small Pub on the Seafront almost ( facing away from sea) A good few Pints of well kept Hophead- Some really interesting Posters and other Rock music memrobilia on the wall , worth a visit for this and the good beers
Seemed shabby but well loved. Half a dozen fellas who had that dishevelled ageing hippy/rock star look formed the local contingent. Again the music too loud in the middle of the day. Lots of rock memorabilia on the walls. Beer was good...but we had been walking a lot on that sunny March day. Fond farewells were offered as we left. Make a point of going here.
I like this pub; it has the feel of a local - ramshackle and informal. Decent live music too, on occasion. The beers... well - I visit hove only sporadically - sometimes the beer is great and well kept; sometimes not so well kept. Still, I'll always take a chance and visit.
Good pub with nice atmosphere. Good selection of books available for local charity as well.
Excellent old world pub.
Good down-to-earth boozer, with nice ale from Dark Star.
Called in after the beer festival and found many other festival people had the same idea. It's a small pub - very cosy, dark and friendly and the beer was well kept.

What a great place. I love coming here when I'm down our beach hut for a few pints of Hophead or Sunburst. A fascinating mix of locals.
I would agree with the reviews below. Great little old school pub with decent beer- what more do you need?! Often live music playing (blues last time I was there), is a bit small so you might wait for a table.
My local, i know its a bit oldy worldy, but thats the secret. Its a great unpretensious pub with a great selection of ales. Just moved round the corner recently and i def reccommend this over most of the other offerings. Good job
Really nice proper pub, good range of ales, 1 or 2 from Dark Star plus a guest each week & Harveys. Really friendly, music a key feature. Definitely one of Hove's best kept secrets.
Great little pub with a stunning pint of Harveys. Fun atmosphere when the music is live.
It's all true - this is one of the best pubs in Hove - in fact anywhere. Pubs are all about decent beer, a bit of atmosphere and friendly patrons. This place has it in abundance. It's darn close to the perfect boozer.
simply the best pub in Hove

Fantastic place, good beer, free live music Fridays and Sundays, this pub is of the old order and dogs are welcome. Unaccompanied women are welcomed and not pestered. Great place for socialising

this pub is full of the older generation who refused to grow up. makes it a really cool place for the next generation. the music, which is actually twice a week, every week, is superb (if you like blues and jazz that is)

every time I have gone to the Neptunes it has been fantastic, be it quiet busy with live music or not.
