Shabby and dated but perfect for walkers who are most welcome (providing you take your boots off). The £3.50 Butts Traditional was probably the best pint I had all weekend in the Hungerford area; also on sale were Butts Jester and Cheddar's Mild (both £3.35). The friendly landlord even opened up the farm shop so that I could buy some of his organic beef and more Butts (in bottles).

Great place for a good pint after a walk around the surrounding areas, nice welcome and good no nonsense pub grub, would reccomend

The beer I had here earlier this week was excellent (Butts Jester) perfectly served and friendly knowledgeable landlord. 10 out of 10 on pub itself and beer (also reasonable price beer compared to some). No comment re food as we didn't eat. Great for walkers and real ale drinkers.

A nice country pub pleasantly off the beaten track. Friendly service and a good choice of local ales. Food was satisfactory but expensive - ie main courses almost all nearly 12/13, puddings 5 approx. Would not rush to pay a return visit.

We - a friend and myself - went for lunch to the Swan Inn whilst on a walk from Kintbury to Bedwyn. Whilst we were rather grateful to find a blazing fire to warm up and a general welcoming atmosphere, we were seriously disappointed with the food. The roast was superbly bland - after having read recommendations in the walking guide and having checked the rather promising looking website, we were really looking forward to a decent lunch. The second 'surprise' came with the bill: 23 for a roast, a pudding and a pint. Shame for the place, as with the attached organic shop it seems like they should have a recipe to success.

Have been going to this pub on and off for a number of years and it is always a 'safe pair of hands'. Spent a very pleasant Saturday lunchtime/afternoon here last week as part of a walking group of 14 which descended on the pub without notice. They nevertheless accommodated us all for lunch with no bother. Butts Jester and Traditional were enjoyed by us all (except for the designated drivers of course). Definitely recommended.

Very good place for a beer if your're walking/cycling/just in the area. Food quite good but could be better. Great location.

Friendly pub with good Butts beer. The food however is expensive and not well served. My fishcake (10.95) came with soggy saute potatoes (two tiny halves)and I had to wait five minutes for a tiny portion of microwaves veg. By all means drink here- that's good, but forget the food.

Beer is good & food is organic / local, menu choice is governed by what is in season. Excellent.

Always quiet at least dutring the week (don't quite know how it stays open unless it very differnet at weekends) but the beer (the real ale anyway) is great, with some not-too-well-known beers available. The food is largely centred on the produce of the owner's farm (I believe) which means that the menu is a little limited (you get the impression that there is beef with everything), but is good quality and with generous portions. It's cooked well enough but is not what I would call great food. The place is friendly and has plenty of seating, inside and out, and there is a dart board, quiz night etc.

Organic beers (Butts) and food (good if a little expensive) in a village pub, though it's really a bit more upmarket (also restaurant & 10 rooms). Quiet when I visited but reckon it gets busy - walker & cyclist friendly.
