Called in last week as it is very highly rated by CAMRA, having won awards in the last few years. Beer was well kept, and the cider was good too. The locals idea of conversation is to sit as far away from each other as possible and shout as loud as they can, although they seemed friendly enough! The food was, however, dreadful. Their idea of chilli con carne was to fry some mince, chuck in a chilli and a few dry kidney beans and serve it swimming in its own grease. I couldn't eat it, it smelt rancid. Good enough to drink in but don't eat the food!

Some of the punters in here looked like extras from shameless. The beer itself was OK but the service was poor and it felt like being in the front room of a family you dont know or like much.
possibly one of the top 2 pubs in a village with only 2 pubs

Popped in twice over the weekend on my annual "stag" weekend with friends.

Thatchers Gold and Dry cider as well as Otter, Doombar and Cotleigh ales. All well kept and tasting good.

Magnificent and reasonable burgers kept hunger at bay.

This pub is a rare thing these days- an independant, small-town pub that still appears to be thriving. Not stuck in the 1700's, but also accepting it's West Country heritage. It successfully caters for it's older regulars as well as the Wivvy cricket team in for a pre-match pint.

I can't help but love it.

I wish it had Exmoor Gold on - it always used to - but you can't have everything.

Had a pint of the local brew, cotleigh but is was rank. I asked for it to be changed but the barmaid gave me such a dirty miserable look, and I had no reason to suppose that any of the other ales on offer would be any better so I left.
Not worth trying again methinks

I've only been to Wiveliscombe four or five times over the past few years, and each time I've been I've visited this pub. It's a 'locals' pub, which is very good, and visitors are assimilated as if they were regulars. Impressive menu, with the usual stuff including OAP specials (I'm old enough for these, but seldom early enough!).
There were three handpumps 'live', one of which was dispensing Cotleigh Harrier @ 2 a pint. Malt whisky @ 2-15, which isn't at all out of the way.
I shall ensure I call in again when in the area.

No Exmoor Gold and Cotleigh will soon follow suit!

Probably the best pub in Wivvy witn NO Wivvy beers???

Scandalous!!

We stayed overnight at this pub for a local wedding. We had a room in the top floor: it was very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The bar staff were very friendly and managed our check-in without any fuss. We ate lunch in the pleasant back garden and enjoyed an excellent sirloin steak and a home-made chicken pie. Breakfast the next morning was a proper Full English Breakfast (included in the very reasonable room price). We would stay here again without any hesitation.

Friendly pub on a cold November day, the staff welcoming the food was good and the beer even better. Dogs welcome.

Excellent town pub, serving great local ales and good reasonable food. Can get crowded at the weekend but that is surely a good sign? A must of you're in Wivvy! Try the Exmoor Gold.

On a weekday afternoon this was the warm happening heart of Wivvy. Just down the street from the cold empty Hart.

A free house and a typical country pub. Very good range of local and guest beers and good, home made 'pub grub'.
