Seven of us went to the Monkon Inn for lunch. Food good and very reasonably priced, service quick and friendly. The only downside was the limited and disappointing choice of real ales.

Couldn't agree more with 'anontaunton'. Although have been here a few times and the food has always been good, the waiting staff lovely and the prices reasonable, the last time I went the manager was unnecessarily abrupt and rude. I'm not asking for redcarpet treatment, but on my last visit he was actually quite offensive - perhaps I had previously mistaken him as characterful and dour. Sadly, having been to many pubs in the locailty, I do still think they have the best on offer in terms of food - good beer selection too - but I won't be visiting again.

Anontaunton in now not only promoting his/her own pub with over optomistic views of their own pub, but is now stooping so low as to slag off rival pubs too. This pub is basic "what you see is what you get" sort of pub, and as such very much better than the Maypole, (check out their reviews)

Went for lunch with a friend today, and was quiet shocked at The Monkton Inn. A rude man greeted us with 'Have you booked' and on answering no he tutted. It would have been alright if at half past one and the place was full but sadly not. Three other tables eating. We sat and ordered drinks very quickly, ate and left. The food was nothing special for a 'Gastro' pub, a pint of Guiness is 3.65! Will not go back as our meal was rushed and it seemed if we were interupting an easy lunchtime session.

Heard great reviews but was a little disappointed. Nice prices for gastropub food but portion sizes fairly small and lacked any wow factor. Waiting staff seemed very stressed, bar staff run off feet, although wine list not bad and choice of beers on tap pleasant enough . Maybe it was an off night, would like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Good food, very friendly , lovely old somerset village - how they should be !

Recently visited the Monkton for a meal and was pleasantly surprised at how lovely it was, everything was great from the lady sitting with us to take our order to the home made sweets produced when our bill arrived. Excellent food beautifully presented, well priced, good drink selection and very nice staff, well done to you all. Only complaint it is booked up ages in advance for sunday lunch!!!
|
Cheap and cheerful, totally without sophistication or refinement. OK for a cheap meal if you are out in this part of town.

I had a meal in here, very nice.

Recommended for Sunday lunch - excellent service from friendly staff, good food at good prices, nice garden - handled our large group well and our food arrived quickly. Would definitely go back.

Agree about the previous comment regarding the other pub "The Merry Monk". Not the sort of pub where I got the same change twice ;-)
For the same round that is!!! My mistake!!! D'oh!!!

Again find myself disagreeing with Yoyo. Considering the clap trap we have to put up with in Taunton this is a nice gem close to Taunton with good value food. Yes it may put more emphasis on eating rather than drinking but does manage to cater as a drinking pub IMHO just about. Agree about the previous comment regarding the other pub "The Merry Monk". Not the sort of pub where I got the same change twice ;-)

Great place to eat at very reasonable prices.Really nice atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. Avoid the other pub in the area..The Merry Monk..

I haven't experienced any pub atmosphere in here, it seems like a restaurant and only a restaurant. They generally have 3 ales, but too often they seem bland. A real pity as this should be a great village local.

Went with 25 walkers for lunch. We were able to pre-order before walking. Service was excellent, staff friendly and efficient, food good and well priced and all of us served within minutes of each other. A clean welcoming pub - thank you.

went to my sisters 60th party great buffet good ale , nice and clean lovely place look no further nice bar maid

Nice enough food pub. I didn't eat but the menu and the food itself both looked good. The service seemed a bit haphazard, maybe it would be kinder to call it relaxed. Three beers on, but felt a bit more care in their conditioning would not have gone amiss. A nice change from the town centre pubs and chain pubs.
