Bad news im afraid. Pub closed again about 6 weeks ago. Shame as staff, food, beer and atmosphere was all good. Fingers crossed it re-opens shortly. Seems to be getting into a bit of a cycle. Worry is everytime it closes that it isn't going to re-open, but thats the same with any pub today.

after visiting this pub over the weekend i can honestly say we really enjoyed ourselfs, as soon as we walked in we were made to feel welcome. we sat in the restaurant side of the pub which was very nicely decorated. after a hard choice we all decided what we were eating and all thought the food was outstanding, the service was faultless and all staff made sure we had everything we needed even though they seemed short on staff. my farther really enjoys his real ales and was very happy with the 5 choices he had, (i think he almost tried them all).
for what we had i thought it was reasonable also considering the quality of the food and drink. we will definitely be visiting again soon. wish the new owners all the best.

Visited this newly reopened pub last week for a beer. Real ale quality good though range limited and not as locally sourced as alleged on the printed menu! Not tried the food. Pub seems very dark internally - low lighting throughout - and in consequence rather gloomy. I sat in a corner and they immediately turned on some tinny and rather too loud piped music. Rather than ask them to put it off as it was annoying me I drank up and left. Menu looks boring and slightly on the expensive side. May go again if passing by but not at all impressed by previous people running it and not too impressed by the new people so far. Let's see how it develops.

The pub reopened 21st August 2011. Really nice people running the pub. Good beer and really excellent food. Fingers crossed and its early days, but the signs are promising. Currently two real ales, smiths, 3 lagers, guiness, etc. Wine of the month, 10 for red, white or rose. Food very very good indeed. They also have the Wheatsheaf and Little Gomersal.

Lunch is 6.50 (Mon-Sat 12-2). Mains in evenings 10, starters 5 (Mon Sat 6-10). Food quality and quantity really superb. Sunday (12-6) 9 1 course 12 for 2 or 15 for 3. I doubt anyone wouldn't want a pudding, but equally doubt you'd be able to manage one.

I'll post an update later, but things definately seem on the up.

At present it needs a wide berth. No food, no heating, minimal lighting. It is such a sorry state of affairs I hardly know where to start. The best thing I could say it leave well alone and hope the death is short, albeit not painless for those locals who really loved this pub. Hopefully I'll be able to post in the near future that this pub has turned the corner and you should all come and visit. I and the rest of the village would love to meet you, but I'm afraid that at present you'd be stood in a inhospitable frozen tundra on your own. Best wishes for the future of this pub, if it has one?

I must agree with the previous post, this pub has seriously gone downhill this last 12 months. I had very unprofessional contact via telephone when booking a table over Christmas, but due to the shortage of availability 6 weeks before Christmas I decided to take chance. This was a mistake. We have previously eaten here, the setting is good, and the pub is quite nice but the current tenents really do not do the pub justice. This isnt the type of pub for a plasma TV. On arrival the person behind the bar failed to offer any sort of welcome. We ate in the restaurant, where the landlord was working on the carving station, he is certainly no chef. I got the impression none of the staff knew what they were doing. Serving different courses before clearing away from the previous courses. The food was basic and If you had turkey is was served with the same beef stock gravy that was served with the beef. When it came to deserts we had 3 different deserts, Christmas pudding, crumble and a chocolate desert, all had a quater of a strawberry served on top. Christmas pudding with a strawberry!! Maybe its the wrong type of landlord for this type of country pub. This is a pub I will avoid from now on.

Its true the pubs gone down hill at a million miles an hour. As they say, my comments were correct at time of going to press. I would whole heartedly now agree with fluiddmotion's and fionacw's comments. I really hope it can keep going through what looks like difficult time ahead.

It's difficult, as being a regular I want to support the pub and see it be a success. But how can you support a pub in which the landlord is so unfriendly with hit and miss beer and a don't care attitude to new customers and regulars alike?

This pub, until recently, was the meeting point for many in the community and was a great place to meet for a decent pint, nice glass of wine or a meal. The managers were pleasant and well behaved children were welcome. However, the establishment now has new managers and has gone down hill fast!
Huge televisions are on 24/7 and the management are rude and offensive who become argumentative if you express an opinion they don't agree with.

The landlord mentioned in the previous post has now moved on as he was on a temp standing, it was true he had made a huge difference..

Its such a shame that the current Manager/Landlord is not off the same breed.. He is just rude.. They still have a good selection of Real Ales on, but the Landlord stated, I dont understand why people like real ale and I had it my way it would just be lager, stating "who am i meant to know that pint is wrong " after I complained that it failed settle... Then returning to watch the newly installed 50inch TV.

So far lots of regulars nolonger visit anymore due to the general lack of friendliness, low standard of food and the loss of that special welcoming atmosphere that a good landlord brings.

Had to update this page as getting a bit dated. Rileys have moved on Nov 2008. A new landlord in residence that last four months has really improved things. The food is very good and extremely reasonable. Lots of real ales, with Landlord, Cumberland and Adnams always available. Note still shut Mondays. Open all day Saturday and Sunday. Last food orders 6-30pm on Sunday, but about 9pm the rest of the week. Really nice pub for either food or drink (or both). Well behaved children a more than welcome. I really like the pub and the food. Hope it stays this way!

closed Saturday 3-5pm

This pub has just been refurbished and taken over by Rileys. Unfortunately they are not child friendly and we were told that children were not welcome after 5.30 in the evening!

A nice selection of ales with plenty of comfortable chairs. Nice for somewhere that appears more upmarket without costing the earth. There are a few tables the form a semi-beer garden in the car park.

Large multi-roomed pub with real fire and 6 cask ales - requests are welcome. Large restaurant area (mains approx 8) but plenty of room for non-diners.
