The Foresters Inn, Lower Cumberworth
I must agree with the previous post, this pub has seriously gone downhill this last 12 months. I had very unprofessional contact via telephone when booking a table over Christmas, but due to the shortage of availability 6 weeks before Christmas I decided to take chance. This was a mistake. We have previously eaten here, the setting is good, and the pub is quite nice but the current tenents really do not do the pub justice. This isnt the type of pub for a plasma TV. On arrival the person behind the bar failed to offer any sort of welcome. We ate in the restaurant, where the landlord was working on the carving station, he is certainly no chef. I got the impression none of the staff knew what they were doing. Serving different courses before clearing away from the previous courses. The food was basic and If you had turkey is was served with the same beef stock gravy that was served with the beef. When it came to deserts we had 3 different deserts, Christmas pudding, crumble and a chocolate desert, all had a quater of a strawberry served on top. Christmas pudding with a strawberry!! Maybe its the wrong type of landlord for this type of country pub. This is a pub I will avoid from now on.

The Dunkirk Inn, Denby Dale
Having just moved into the area, I visited this pub for the first time in years, wow, its a lovely traditional pub with a contemporary feel. The pub mainly has a local clientelle. The welcome is always first class, the bar staff are always very smart and well presented. The landlady certainly has got it right here, nothing is too much trouble and all the staff are working to the same aim: customer satisfaction. The food is locally sourced and well presented. In short the service, setting and food is of a standard you struggle to find anywhere within a 30 mile radius. 10/10.
