Although it's quite an up market hotel and restaurant, it's also a great bar with a good selection of beers all of which were well presented, and bar food, although a bit pricey was nevertheless good. Service also first class.
The garden and outdoor areas behind the hotel are a delightful place to sit out on a sunny day, and great views of the castle too.

Not one for the lads, a bit too posh for us, that said it has a great selection of ales and the ones we had were well kept. If you are 60 years old and taking your wife out for a quiet meal this place will hit the spot, if your on a session with the boys, I suggest you walk (or get a Cab) into Minehead

lovely building. different rooms to sit and drink in depending on your mood. some posh and grand, and others more traditional. lovely setting, obviously caters for a lot of tourists visiting the town, but still had a soul to it. Pint of fox was very nice, dont know which brewery it was from though.

If you want it, then Colliers are selling it for 1.5 million.

Visited recently and found the high standards generally maintained, excellent beer and food.

Was therefore very sorry to hear that they are in administration.
(this is not a malicous rumour, but a fact that may be confirmed by an internet search)

Hope that whover buys it keeps it tradditional.

I think we ended up in a side bar or something in this place.
Not really our sort of place. A bit too posh for us.

5/10

18 quid for a pub steak!

Thank you - I shall continue to avoid this tourist trap....

Still as good as ever, beer in top form and reasonably priced for the area.
The bar food might be expensive compared to some, but was excellent on my recent visit.
I highly recomend the steak, 18 more of a proper meal than a bar snack.

Ddifficult to rate as the beer (Butcombe) was terrific and I always like the Cheddar Valley cider. Back bar is a favourite spot. However my Exmoor Game Stew was a complete mess on the plate and very overpriced. Other diners fared better but none of the food is good value.

The bar at the rear was a delightful place and the Exmoor Fox was spot on. It was also priced less than most pints we had that week in the Minehead area, surprising for what seems an up-market hotel. The staff were also friendly and I would like to eat there having seen the food coming out of the kitchen.

Would love to go there and on wild winter's night! Cozeeee!

Don't be put off by the somewhat up market reputation this place has. The bar at the back is a wonderful place to have a beer or two and just relax.
great beer, and good bar food. I've heard the restaurant is pretty good too.

one of my favourites !
note that it is not really a pub in the accepted sense of the word but that it is a hotel bar, though none the worse for that.(the hotel rooms and the restaurant have a good reputation, though i have only tried the bar)
log fire, traditional ales, very traditional decor and furnishings, dogs allowed.very good bar snacks.good choice of wines and spirits, as would be expected in the bar of a decent hotel. the staff are very polite, helpful and well trained.
i especialy recomend the locally produced exmoor ales.

This is the pub in Dunster where you take your mother on Mothering Sunday.
