You could easily drive past this pub and be none the wiser, that there's a little gem hiding behind those white walls. Stopped here for lunch and was treated to a superb pint of 'Citra' from the Yorkshire Dales Brewing Co... followed by another. A hearty no nonsense pie and veg lunch for around 7 was thoroughly enjoyable and the nice quiet village atmosphere rounded it off. A great find and one I'd heartily recommend!

Nice classic pub interior. Three cask ales on, Black Sheep Best as well as a Yorkshire Dales and a Salamander. The latter two were in good condition. I would gladly return.

This was the last and certainly one of best pubs we visited in North Yorkshire over the Easter weekend. Yorkshire Dales Muker Silver, Theakston Lightfoot, Salamander William Tell, John Smiths and Black Sheep Best Bitter were the real ales available. There was also a good selection of bottled ciders in the fridge, including Cox's & Katy from Thatchers and Black Dragon from Gwynt y Ddraig. The locals were friendly and so was the landlord. The bar area has bare floorboards and has plenty of character, whilst the lounge is carpeted and seemed a good place to relax and unwind. Old beer and cider bottles line the shelves of both rooms, whilst Yorkshire Dales beers are available to take out. Well worth a visit.

Certainly not fancy. Just a basic pub. It is the place to meet the locals. A friendly bunch. The beer has always been average when I have been there.

Walking to West Witton, we had decided to go here rather than the other pub - described as "a restaurant with a bar". Big mistake. The beer I drank was a local Buttertubs beer - nothing wrong with it except that I didn't like it. It was Saturday lunchtime and someone asked for the football to be put on the TV; then someone else put the juke-box on. The food was very disappointing. My bacon and brie panini was poor, while my wife's carrot and corainder soup was positively unpleasant, including, as it did, unreconstituted powder. Next time we will go to the "restaurant".

A classic Wensleydale pub:originally a monastic establishment dating from the middle ages with a warren of rooms and passages, this has been a favourite of ours for several years. The cosy bar opens out to a larger back room, complete with a well used dartboard. When we came in on a Wednesday lunchtime there was a smattering of good natured locals and visitors. We left our dogs in the car, but an immense labradoodle was making much of himself in the bar The beer choice was somewhat more adventurous than is often the case in the Dales:Yorkshire Dales Muker Silver was a very pale, dry I suppose Silver ale-very drinkable.Salamander Brewery from Bradford offered Tower of Babel, a rather tasty golden ale in a series of biblically themed beers. Also evident were Black Sheep, and John Smiths. Interestingly, this was selling well: I suppose its snobbery on my part, but I never touch the stuff-time to give it a second chance perhaps. There were various fizz founts for those of that inclination. Naturally, sparklers rule here, giving that wonderful settling out ritual. The food was good and honest, pleasantly served. We could happily make this pub our local: a rare accolade from us.9/10

I was about to lose faith in Dales pubs after visiting Leyburn and Redmire. This place has gone some way to restoring my faith. Unpretentious, good food and drinks in a pleasant surroundings.
Tip for landlady: Put notice next to bell to ring if no bar staff. I'm from London and stood around just waiting for a member of staff to come out of kitchen. Minor quibble tho'. good pub..
