We'd hoped to eat at this pub. But it was only just past 6pm and food is not served until 6:30. You get the impression that food is the pub's mainstay. But drinkers are equally well served. 3 unusual ales were on - Flack Manor Wolfie, Hogs Back Home Harvest & Fallen Acorn Pompey Royal. The barman was friendly and knowledgeable. He offered me tasters of two of the beers. My half of Wolfie was very nice indeed. The 3 locals standing at the bar also seemed friendly. The interior is bright and well decorated. An all-round decent pub.

I last posted here on the F'nF four years ago and have visited several times since then at various times of the day and week and found it a consistently good if not excellent place to eat. Went to the F'nF last night and had an excellent evening. The sharing fish platter was very good indeed and my 10oz ribeye almost perfection - probably the best steak I've had in the area [last years Valentines Night steak was possibly just that bit better] my partners duck breast also very good. Too full for dessert unfortunately. Staff friendly and welcoming, facilities clean and tidy.
Not the cheapest place but consistent, dependable excellence isn't. IMHO, this is the best place to eat for miles around and no, I'm not related to the landlord nor do I have any interest in the pub - apart from using it.

Reasonable enough though edging more towards diners than drinkers

We had Sunday lunch at the Fur and Feathers today and the food was superb. The beer was very good also, but not Fullers.

Fantastic atmosphere, warm and inviting. The food is excellent, with the chef making great use of locally-sourced ingredients where possible. The ales are kept very well and the selection changes regularly, and the pub boasts a fantastic wine selection also. The new Landlord and Lady have certainly made this country pub/restaurant into something special - if you find youself in the area The Fur and Feathers is definitely worth a visit!

New Landlady is one of the rudest human beings I have ever met. Made us feel uncomfortable as soon as we arrived. To top it off I found a pubic hair in my mashed potato! There are much much better pubs very close by which I would reccomend (ie The Hoddington Arms Upton Grey or the Royal Oak Lasham). Both serve pube free food.

still more of a restaurant than a pub, but beer always in good nick

Went for the Sunday Roast and it was delicious! Went for the lamb and they even managed to sneak a yorkie in there for me. The other two had the veal which was nice and tender and cooked perfectly. We all had starters too - they had the cheese topped mushroom, I had the caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, which was to die for! We were going to go for dessert as well but were too stuffed!
In terms of ales, they had 2 on and we had one of each. I forget the names but I preferred the Ruddington (or something like that), which was smooth. The other one had a nice fruity after taste to it.
Great service and very nice decor. Given that the veal is usually 15 alone when ordered from the black board, the two courses for 15 deal was really good! And although you don't technically save as much by ordering the roast on this offer, the food was still excellent and worth every penny.

Good news is that the F&F has been taken over by the team that ran the Greyfriar in Chawton. Herriards gain is Chawtons loss. Went to the F&F twice last week, once in the evening for a quiet pint but the place was very busy with diners. V. pleasant Landlady went out of her way to find us somewhere to sit. Went at the weekend for lunch and the 2 of us had excellent steaks, presented as we asked for them, from a varied and extensive menu. Its j u s t a tad expensive to eat there BUT the place is very clean, well set out the food is very good and the clientele behave themselves - no loudmouth oafs! Beer well kept, four pumps atm but the landlord is talking of putting in another 2.

Really great pub. Friendly with good value food and a great pint. You will not be disappointed.

We visited this pub on the basis of previous positive reviews. We were not disappointed. The pub isn't crowded with too many tables, the beer was well-kept (Ruddy Darter, TEA) and the food was not only good value but really, really tasty. The service was also excellent. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this pub.

Well done on the refurbishment - taken this pub back to how we remembered it when we moved here. Great job. Local Ales were just the compliment to a fab lunch. Kids and Gramdma ate from the kids menu and gave it the thumbs up. Wife and i had spicy fishcakes and herriard shot pheasant - both excellent and set us up a treat to withstand the wintery afternoon. Puds were first class - ice cream was expensive - but the best we have had since the beach in cornewall! Good luck to the team - you are on the right track - we will definitely be back!

Visited for a Sunday roast; Nice pub with traditional looking wooden tables and chairs. nice open fire and friendly, helpful staff. Quiet, only 4 people in, but it was fairly early, and it did start to get busier by the time we left. The food however, was far from local produce. It was frozen, re-heated stuff, and the beef was pre-sliced, wafer thin slices. The gravy was very nice, but that didn't really make up for the soggy meat and veg' it covered. Just get some fresh veg and a decent joint of meat, and it would be a great place. 6/10

landlord is mad as a hatter but great fun, his child bride wife is a fantastic cook and does the most amazing liver and bacon, just hope they get to stay there

Went to the Fur and Feathers last night and discovered that it had changed hands 11 weeks ago. I am glad that it did. The owners are friendly and welcoming, the beers (HSB and London Pride) were good and the food was excellant and good value. Go there.

This is a really good country pub with loads of character and great food. It has a warm open fire in the winter and good staff. Book in advance if you want an evening meal. They use local produce in their menu and have local beers at the bar. A good night out.
