The Fur and Feathers, Herriard

I last posted here on the F'nF four years ago and have visited several times since then at various times of the day and week and found it a consistently good if not excellent place to eat.
Went to the F'nF last night and had an excellent evening.
The sharing fish platter was very good indeed and my 10oz ribeye almost perfection - probably the best steak I've had in the area [last years Valentines Night steak was possibly just that bit better] my partners duck breast also very good.
Too full for dessert unfortunately.
Staff friendly and welcoming, facilities clean and tidy.

Not the cheapest place but consistent, dependable excellence isn't.
IMHO, this is the best place to eat for miles around and no, I'm not related to the landlord nor do I have any interest in the pub - apart from using it.

The King William IV, Hailey

Splendid isolated pub with fabulous views over the Chilterns. Good for walkers - dogs welcomed. Went there some years ago when the present landlord opened and was impressed then. Went there last week and again impressed with the pub, the view, the beer and the food. Menu is varied and large and prices compare with those in Henley for similar type of pubs i.e not the Hotel du Vin!
The landlord is NOT grumpy !!

Good news is that the F&F has been taken over by the team that ran the Greyfriar in Chawton. Herriards gain is Chawtons loss. Went to the F&F twice last week, once in the evening for a quiet pint but the place was very busy with diners. V. pleasant Landlady went out of her way to find us somewhere to sit.
Went at the weekend for lunch and the 2 of us had excellent steaks, presented as we asked for them, from a varied and extensive menu. Its j u s t a tad expensive to eat there BUT the place is very clean, well set out the food is very good and the clientele behave themselves - no loudmouth oafs!
Beer well kept, four pumps atm but the landlord is talking of putting in another 2.
