And so a few short months after the brewery handed the pub over to a decent manager (Geoff) they sell it out from under him for a mess of pottage, for redevelopment. Geoff and his team, lead by Fraulein Olga have worked hard and professionally and rewarded with the boot. Tonight, March 21st, was the last night, and they have gone out with charm and dignity. Best of luck to all of them - here's to the next life. Sandman says shame on the brewery...

Popped in for a pint prior to a match at nearby Stamford bridge, wish we hadn't bothered. Some kind of kids table tennis tournament was occupying the bar staff, so eventually the chef came and provided us with two pints of criminally expensive lager. Will not go back.

After a lovely walk along the river we came across this pub The Hurlingham on the north side of Wandsworth Bridge.
We ordered the Sunday roast beef. The food was awful the Meat was one thin slice that looked like it came from a tin, the baked potatoes was burnt as was the yorkshire pudding.
the whole meal was un eatable,
We complained and asked for a refund that was given, We must have walked past about six pubs along the river and we made the mistake of walking in this one.

Visiting the Hurlingham for the first time since its Funky Pink repaint I was pleasantly unsurprised to find that the Pub is better than ever. It does look after the toffs but still has a few locals at the bar talking through their day and ladies who lunch, having lunch!
This really is a great pub and I know of no other like it in Fulham, possibly South West London!

You must visit this pub, have dinner if you can, its also great.

The Hurlingham. Sounds a bit toffee, in reality 'is' a bit toffee but it's good, really it's alright. Look, this area has sloanes in it and to an extent this pub has to cater for those guests but it hasn't made the same mistakes alot of pubs in this area have made. Namely massively high costs, dodgy drinks and pretentious staff. The bar staff are friendly (but on my visit clearly confused by the TV), the drinks are great (ale on draft and bottled), the food is good and the interior is smart. Nice place to take the missus, or have a swift one with a mate. I'm giving it a 7 and will be back.

Thumbs Up, London Calling.

We had our New Years party at the Hurlingham and it was absolutely brilliant.
The bar staff were professional, fun and extremely efficient. The food is excellent and the whole atmosphere lent to a great night.

100 people attended the evening, most of them first timers to the pub. The feedback I received from them was that they would definitely go back to The Hurlingham again.

If you haven't been before, get yourself down to The Hurlingham!

great pub

The Hurlingham has now a fantastic cocktail list which the wife loves and on top of that she gets free champagne every friday as do all ladies! I don't know how they do it but they do. I was in the pub last Friday, the music was great, great crowd and her drinks were free! I love this pub. I'm watching all the rugby there this year and since they have a new credit crunch menu, I'm eating there most days too. Just a perfect pub!

Keep the Friday night music......LOVE IT!

The Hurlingham is my new local. Such a great improvement from the Wandsworth Bridge Tavern. Great atmosphere and excellent service from staff. Was in last Saturday night with work colleagues for some drinks. Two girls working behind bar, one I think being a manager, were very helpful. Was suppose to be a few quiet drinks, but my male colleagues found it hard to leave the barmaids.
Will definately spread the word about this pub and will be in again very soon.

The last comment has inspired me to write about our previous christmas party. We expected fifty people to turn up and when a hundred arrived there was no issues. The service was impeccable and the food was exceptionable at the price which was given. We are now holding a summer staff party at the Hurlingham as it is such a great venue. So pleased there is such a decent pub in the area.

What a pub. We took 25 people there for a Christmas Meal and it was absolutely fantastic. I am only just writing this now as we are taking the same group, plus more, for a birthday party there soon. The food was superb and reasonably priced. The manager and chef were very accomodating with our requirements, and the staff who served us were very attentive, polite and friendly. What more could you ask for?Better value for money, less pretentious and better atmosphere than the over rated Ship across the river. This pub is one of the best in the area - worth travelling for.

have been using pub as local since it re opened and its just getting busier. The food can suffer when there packed solid but otherwise spot on! I was there on Sunday for the music too! How good was it! Def will be back another Sunday with mates

A really pleasent refurbishment and a vast improvement. Good name too.
Jeremy3 - 11 Nov 2007 12:47
Thank God for that!
Its not black anymore and the staff say hello to you!
To be honest it wouldn't have been hard to improve the Wandsworth Bridge Tavern but I must say they really have done a nice job. I had a quick sandwich here for lunch which was fine and very reasonable at 4.50 with a drink.
I do like the change and will come back for Supper soon, watch this space.

What a great pub! Never been here before but certainly will be back. Myself and 7 mates came into watch the FANTASTIC rugby on Saturday and doubt we will go anywhere else again. As we arrived the place was busy as hell but the manager spotted us at the door, asked me how many of us and with a little help from us managed to move a table from one corner into the middle with chairs for all of us and also made quite sure the folks around us were not put out! The place just got busier and busier and I can see why. The staff were great and the food was very impressive for a rugby day. We stayed till late and made sure we booked a table for this week! Come on England and I love the HURLINGHAM.

Always new this pub before the change but wasn't good for anything more than a pint or a cold sausage roll but Now! Well I don't know who these new guys are but what they have done surpasses any other 'Gastro Pub' in the area and certainly this quiet end of Fulham. The food is well priced and delicous with staff service like no other I have come across in a back street boozer before. They accomidate kids which benefits me only from the Yummy Mummy perspective but the children aren't running around the place but i did notice the staff helping a few mothers entertain during lunch which is also such a great touch.
The pub has the standard sofas everywhere and a few book cases like most pubs of its kind but you can also really see an individual touch of class has been added, from the little canvas bust of Batman on the wall to the wee metal sign behind the bar stating 'Be nice or leave'.
The whole pub (and there is lots of it) just oozes class and the staff are so lovely.
I love this Pub and you will too!
Well done guys, whoever you are and thank you.

Went here last night for the fist time since the refurb, it looks good but was not impressed by their menu one bit. Was planning to eat there but there was nothing on the menu that appealed to any of us. Good simple food is what is required by a pub such as this one. I miss the Pub-Quiz that it used to have too, it was really fun. Despite what has just been said, friendly staff which is alway nice.
wandering_alice - 28 Sep 2007 15:45
i used to like the WBTavern but the black wasnt too welcoming. not entirely sure about the refurb but they've hired some pretty barmaids, given them a uniform, which makes the place feel friendlier. the service is excellent but havent yet sampled the food yet.

clientele is a funny mix of young-upwardlys and some of the nicer folk from the estate opposite.

...only gripe is no bar snacks, only a new 'posh' restaurant menu!!!!!
mawds21 - 18 Sep 2007 17:16
A change of name and an immediate leap in quality. New management committed to service rather than laziness. Quick refurb probably a taste of things to come rather than the finished job, but a vast improvement nonetheless. And at least the outside isn't black any more.

The Wandsworth Bridge Tavern is dead - long live The Hurlingham!

Oh, the quizzes are now on Mondays rather than Thursdays, but it's still the same bloke. Still, he's harmless enough, and has a loyal following (although teams seem to consist of five, six, or seven people, which is too many by any rational standards).

The shouting people from the estate still frequent the place, but they've got the message and have smartened up, and are bellowing less.

Dithering between a 7 and an 8 rating. Will go for 8 for the sake of encouragement.
Sandman - 4 Sep 2007 10:26
Painted black on the outside, there's little jolly or welcoming about this pub. Clientele seems to be a mixture of middle class youth who are a bit lost, and older folk from the nearby council estate who get drunk and start shouting at each other. The quizzes on Thursdays are frightening - the question master thinks shouting and projection are the same thing. Trouble is, you have to cross the river to get to the next pub...
Sandman - 9 Jan 2007 15:14
Good food, excellent beer on tap, great quiz on Thursday nights and an enjoyable place to watch rugby internationals (the only sport they show) with big screen TV but never gets really packed. Pool tables are no longer in situ and I haven't seen a dart board in years.

The Goose is gone! Long live its reincarnation. Reverting back to its original name this prominent pub has had a very tasteful refurbishment, banishing all of the more dubious additions that made it such an unbearable place to drink. A good range of Greene King real ales, along with amongst others Budvar on draft, the pub also has an extensive well thought out wine list. No food as yet but I am told this is coming. At last a real alternative if the Ship gets too much, definitely worth a look.

Has changed name and image, but has managed to retain its quaint homeless hostel grade clientle.
