Certainly plenty of diners today so we sat on our own in the beer garden which at least had a bit of greenery and didn't seem quite as close to the High Street as it actually is. Had it not been for the garden, then I think we would have been limited to a few bar stools. I was rather impressed by the range of ales - Two Cocks Brewery's 1643 Cavalier, Milk Street's Funky Monkey, Reedley Hallows' New Laund Dark, Loddon's Flight of Fancy, Great Oakley's Tiffield Thunderbolt and London Fields' Love Not War (my choice and which tasted like it was being poured straight from the wood - beautiful). Draught Leffe, a wheat beer and 4 real ciders were also available so good marks overall from me (perhaps we were lucky being able to sit outside).

Sort of agree with the last post. More a restaurant than a pub - very bright but has little atmosphere. 6 handpumps with 4 beers on yesterday, something from 2 Cocks Brewery, Hop Back and 2 others. Quality not much cop. Not busy on a Wednesday afternoon.

Probably a good pub, but I can't say, as I popped in here at lunchtime on a Bank Holiday... and popped straight out again. The place was very busy - in contrast to all the other pubs in Hungerford - and the selection of ales was impressive, but it's an over-lit restaurant with seemingly almost nowhere to drink unless you're dining at one of the large tables or in the overcrowded seats outside. The lighting was a bit incongruous in a building as old as this. Food looked and smelled excellent... but the scent of smoked halibut doesn't do a lot for one's appreciation of a pint of ale.

A good old pub, good ale, warm welcome, a favourite

Don't be fooled by peeling paint outside because this is a great pub, Good beer (lots of choice) and well priced well cooked food. We (group of cyclists) were made very welcome. This pub was recommeded by a local and we were not disapointed.

Massively improved under current management (Paddy and Steve). Always at least 6 real ales on tap, many from local brewers like Three Castles, Pewsey and Ramsbury. Excellent food, especially the Seychelles curry! Friendly and welcoming.
The only downside is that the building itself is badly in need of some TLC... which hopefully will happen when Greene King give up the lease next year.

Characteful pub with a good range of slightly pricey ales. Apparently owned by Greedy King but only had one of their beers (Old Trip) and five others from local micros (W.Berkshire, Ramsbury etc). Very friendly dog called Barney. Recommended.

This has always been a good pub, let's hope it continues to be.

Landlord tries hard but the place is not welcoming from the outside. The pub is looking tired inside and out.
Apparently Greene King are not renewing their lease - planning permission is currently in place to update the place and put it back to a suitable state before they hand it back.
So as the Town and Manor of Hungerford own the site, they will now have a to find a new lessee for the premises. We will see what happens.

It may be Greene King but they always seem to have several guest beers. The staff is very friendly, the Landlord welcoming and the beer is served well. The food is also good and there are frequent "international nights" with interesting menus.

Incredibly nice staff. Good choice of ale. Friendly dog. Can't fault it.

The bad news is that it is tied to Greene King. The good news is that it had two decent guest ales in last w/e that weren't bad. Good friendly service and a good chat Fri and Sat. Late licence
