I have to add a review to balance the last one. I have been to this pub several times over the last 18 months and the staff have always been pleasant and helpful, the food is good ... which it should be, because it is not cheap. On one occasion they catered a buffet for 20 guests. I was a little unsure when I first saw the proposed menu "sausages on sticks, quiche etc" but the food was excellent. There is a lot of difference between a fresh homemade quiche and one from a packet and my guests and I were well satisfied. I have never drunk beer in this pub, perhaps it is something about the smart modern decor which makes me reach for the wine list :-)

I've been here a few times, but probably won't bother again, they don't know how to train the staff! The food is very good, if a bit overpriced, but the shoddy staff ruin the whole experiance. On our last visit we were left waiting for our table for an hour, they had forgotten about us. Once we got to the table I had to call the waiter over to order a bottle of wine, we had been sitting there 15 minutes being ignored. We had our order taken but they came out with the main course not the starter and we still didn't have the wine. I eventually had to go to the bar to get the wine. Then they brought out the wrong deserts, all in all a very bad night. Then to top it off they got the bill completely wrong, didn't have a clue what we had eaten. If you do go there to eat I hope it goes better for you......

The Parson Woodforde is now refurbished and reopened under new management with a menu specialising in locally-sourced, good quality food. It has a welcoming bar offering a good range of Norfolk and Suffolk brews and a large, but comfortable restaurant. I declare an interest, as I work there, but urge people to check it out for themselves and see what we have to offer. I hope you'll find we've made a great improvement from the days which inspired some of the negative comments posted here.

Once a great pub, now closed. But there's a lot of work going on - its been extended upwards and outwards, and they are advertising for chefs and staff, so presumably it will reopen as a pub/restaurant. Given that they have forced all their regulars away to drink at the Swan at Ringland - a good pub - they may not find it easy to recover the locals

Great pub for ambience but food overpriced compared to other local pubs (Ringland Swan & Honingham Buck). Service is bad with a B. Go elsewhere as I did after waiting 45 minutes for our starter. Beer is also expensive.

We were very disappointed. The starters wers said to be good by those who had them but the main course was a disappointment. Hand Carved Ham, eggs and hand cut chips turned out to be a smmal slice of smoked gammon steak - not hand carved ham and the cips were cold. The steak and kidney pudding, although apparently tasted ok was a suet crust pastry pie - it had been baked not steamed and the hot pot was runny and the cheese scone overdone - no potoatoes on the top so not really a hot pot! The desserts were well presented. We advised the waitress that the gammon was not as ordered and the recipient did not like smoked gammon either - she took it away and asked if she could get anything else but was declined but when the bill presented it had been charged for and was grudgingly refunded when attention drawn to this. Food served should be as described on the menu - not the chefs interpretation of the dish! The turkey, ham and apricot pie was very good.

Menu looked good but we didn't stay as the beer range has taken a tumble. No Wherry eny more. Who prefers Shepherd Neame, which was in its place, or Deuchars IPA? Bit of a let down that, so we went to the Swan at Ringland down the road and found Wherry and other beers from the local Wolf brewery. This pub needs a shake up!

Returned to this pub as an occasional visitor to Norfolk/Norwich. I agree that the new owners are investing and making an effort. New decor in the bar is an improvement; quality wood flooring and better furniture. Found the wherry to be very well kept and very much enjoyed their Sunday roast. But it lacks something still. It was a hot sunny day yet noone was in the previously v busy garden. Was this because the grass was uncut/untidy and a no umbrellas to shade the tables? As we were hesitating about how to get some shade another couple walked up and gasped "it used to be so pretty". They left after one drink. The staff came out to ask us if we enjoyed the meal [which we did v much] but didn't pick up any of the rubbish (old napkins and general debris) on the patio that had clearly been around for days. And some of the tables and chairs have broken slats, and the hanging baskets still have last summer's dead plants in them. They really need a manager to get a grip and "show" the staff how to run the place as its not an attitude problem from them as far as I can see. Overall I would go back/continue to use this pub, but what a shame it doesn't do better, as it would not take much to improve such a lot (and justify the big money they have invested on the refurb I guess)

No complaints. from us we were there in December and found the Wherry very drinkable... as was the standard GK IPA... The food was great. Sea Bass with celeriac in a dill cream sauce, mange tout & vine tomatoes... near perfect in my opinion. my wife had the Beef fillet stroganoff with wild rice.. superb. thought we needed to add our say.... Just read it had closed for re-furb.. i will be back.

I went when it first changed hands and it wasa nice to see a menu with real food, I went to go yesterday for dinner but it is closed for refurbishment. Hopefully they update the decor and keep the good food. I wish the new owners all the best.

Beware. This pub changed hands in Nov 2007. Now one of several pubs owned by Arrowsmith Inns. So far the beer range is much the same - the Woodfords is very good but the rest rather dull. But the menu has taken a step back - very much a grill and frying pan place. Need to wait and see what a keen manager will do to this previously excellent village pub.

Great pub Great food. Attended a funeral tea for the father inlaw and the spread was lovely.Always pay a visit when we are in Norfolk.

Cosy welcoming country pub well known for its excellent food. Lengthy specials menu of locally cooked good value and good quality dishes. Menu changes frequently. At least two real ales - Woodford's wherry and an Adnams plus another that can vary but is often Green King. The carvery restaurant out the back lacks atmosphere but there and tables in the pub which are best reserved. Very helpful and friendly staff.

5 real ales, large menu with lots of choice, freindly, family run pub.for locals and none good value for money
