Standard type of Vintage Inn's place. Never the greatest imagination of ales. Landlord, Tribute and, yes you guessed it - Doombar. I did go against my principles and asked how much the Moor's Union Hop (keg) spit, from the shiny pump was? £5.05, I was told - honestly. Food not the best I've had - needed a decent beer to wash it down.

Large food orientated pub in lovely surroundings.
On my visit there 3 ales on draught, the pints of Otter I had were very good and well kept.
Good menu with a lot of choices including 3 speciality pies and a good fish range and meals at decent prices
Busy, smallish bar area with the majority of space taken for eating.
Large gardens and car park.
Nice place in a historical village a short distance for the front, car or cab to get here only.

The cockington country park is like a fish out of water in the dump of Torquay and the Drum Inn is a fantastic looking place. We only drank here so can't say much about the food. The trouble is with tourist areas repeat trade is rare so pubs don't care as you may not be returning anyway.

The Drum Inn is a striking 1930s thatched building in the chocolate box village of Cockington. The approach via the arched entrance is most impressive. It bills itself as a traditional country pub but is nothing of the sort, being a gastropub/restaurant affair. Three handpumps serving Tribute, Butcombe and Summer Lightning. My pint of Summer Lightning was in poor condition. The food was okay and reasonably priced. The outdoor drinking area, overlooking a sweeping lawn is quite pleasant. I will give it another go next time I'm in the area.

Well, the food we had seemed to be very good value (but then we do live in the South-East); the service could not have been friendlier or more efficient. The pint of Butcombe I had was in first rate nick, as well. It's an interesting place, designed by Lutyens, in a very attractive setting. Obviously it's food centred, and generally that makes for the kind of pub that I personally am not so keen on - but I liked this place; it was warm, comfortable and friendly, and I'd certainly be happy to go there again if I was in the area.

For the price, the food is not of a high standard and the serving staff are not very friendly. The first time i visited this pub, i ordered chips, which were cold. Asking for Ketchup i was given a pot and the waitress left, I started dipping and when she returned was told it's "basic food hygiene" not to dip as the one pot is shared between everybody in the pub - how do i know what the last person to have the pot did to it???... On my second visit a year later this was still the case, with food (not mine) around the sides of the pot... hygienic!

I visited this pub yesterday having been there in the past. The location is very nice and the staff seem freindly enough. The food was dissapointing though. The starter of pate and toast was ok but the roast beef I had to follow was very overcooked and the roast lamb my friend had was too tough to even bother trying to eat. We decided to have coffee outside afterwards and the barman kindly decided to bring it out for us as none was ready. We got our coffee at the fourth time of asking having been told the coffee meant for us had been "stolen" by someone else???? There was also a barbeque on offer outside but the person cooking this seemed to not know his hygiene requirements as he stood there in his chefs overalls smoking a cigarette. Overall a nice location and building but the food does it no justice, hope it will improve.

Probably the best pub to take a family in the area. The food is always top and they are very polite and friendly. The food is great value and we have never had a problem here. I would recommend it to people in the Cockington area.

Built in the 1930's with retro thatched roof it is an imposing building in a peaceful village that is hidden from mainstream Torquay by a short 15min walk. 3 beers Butcombe, Tribute, London Pride all in excellent condition. Food is well presented and the real sausages creamy mash and gravy were excellent value at 6-50. Lovely gardens, an idyllic peaceful spot and luckily we were staying just round the corner at the equally idyllic Lanscombe House private hotel. Score 8

Its easy to give this pub an above average review simply because its location is stunning & on a sunny day there a few that can rival the supping at an outside table in the chocolate box village of Cockington. The choice of beers is reasonable & the various bitters i have tried have met with approval, however if food is your priority when visiting then dont build your hopes up too high.

Whatever your opinion of Vintage Inns may be, you can't fault them for location. I just about know the M and B menu off by heart but the food is good and service friendly and efficient. The St Austell Tribute was very good - I could have camped down for the afternoon but the family had other ideas.

PLEASANT PUB WITH USUAL AMENITIES A SHORT WALK UP A COUNTRY LANE FROM WESTERN END (LIVERMEAD) OF TORQUAY. FEELS LIKE A BIT OF REAL DEVON WITH COCKINGTON FORGE ACROSS THE ROAD
