Swan Inn, Stofordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Pulled into the car park today intending to have lunch here, but it had a sign "Closed Until Further Notice" in the doorway. (Not entirely a wasted trip, since Sting (who lives only a mile or so away from this pub) also just arrived at the same time and it gave me a chance to see a "rock legend" close up.) It used to be very good, hope it re-opens.

This pub does not seem to be at first glance a "drinking" pub, however, there did seem to be some very happy looking locals at the bar. The food was fantastic, delicious. Was there with my very fussy family, everyone was kept happy. Staff were very friendly, but not in your face annoying. Having had a terrible experience at the Royal Oak over the road, I would brave the very busy road, to get into the Swan, knowing that I will be rewarded for the effort.

No complaints about the beer - see below - and I've nothing to say about the food, which may well be excellent - but I dropped in for a drink last night, thinking this was a pub. It is not. It is a restaurant with a small side area where you can have a drink while waiting for a table. That's where we were encouraged to sit while our drinks were brought to us by a waitress. We were the only people in there who were not dining (even though it was only 5pm), and there was, needless to say, no atmosphere. I enjoyed the beer but not the occasion, and my mood went down another peg when I asked for the bill. Maybe I'm living in a dream world but this was the most expensive pint I've ever had, at �3.48. When I questioned it, the landlord tried to pal up with me, blaming the price on the brewery - and they're putting the prices up again next week. Well I won't be going there next week, so they can do what they like with the prices. On the basis that this is a pub review site, and the Swan@stoford (as the sign irritatingly has it) is simply not a pub, I was inclined to rate it zero. However, as the beer was excellent - I had the beautifully-kept TT Landlord, and they also had a tempting Otter and a Hop Back - I was going to rate it 3 - but then I thought again about the ripoff prices and knocked it back to 2.

Staff friendly and very efficient (there was a huge birthday bash going on at the time we were there). Good range of beers and excellent food.

This pub sells the best Lamb in the world you will not eat it anywhere else once you have tried it there.10 out of 10 for food

I ate at The Swan a few weeks ago with my husband, it was our anniversary. We thought the range of food was superb. It was so difficult to choose what i wanted to eat because there was so much on offer. The staff were excellent, very friendly, pleasant and eager to make our night special. I would say if you want a relaxed evening out, go to The Swan, its excells above all the rest.

Excellent food, nice relaxed atmosphere with a basic, but pleasant wine list. Superb all round 'nice' evening.

I agree with Nigel. The restaurant at The Swan is excellent (in my view far superior to The Royal Oak) and the beer is always well kept, with a reasonable choice.

Can't agree with below (although the Royal Oak is great). Excellent food and I've never found the beer below par.

Bland and soulless pub on the busy A36 that doesn't even stay open all day despite its location. Do yourself a favour and swan on over to the nearby Royal Oak in Great Wishford for better beer (by far), better food and better company.
