Ah, thanks, EccentricRichard. So, if a corporate brewer who uses finings normally produces a crystal clear pint, but you find in a particular pub that it is cloudy, then what would that say to you? (Incidentally, Evans is rather tall).

Two things to note. One, it's owned by ginger 2@ and Top Gear ruiner Chris Evans, so if you don't want to line the little pillock's pockets, avoid the place. Two, exguvnor, real ale is supposed to be cloudy. It's just corporate brewers adding isinglass that enables it to be clear - which is in no way necessary to produce good beer.

Lovely pub. We went there about seven years ago for a drink on the way home to London. Vowed to go back to eat but never did. Now live only a few miles from it and we finally got round to going for lunch.
Lovely pub, nice original features brought sympathetically up-to-date. Staff very welcoming and treated the dog almost as well as they treated us (drink and a plate of biscuits while we were still deciding what to drink). Nice range of ale, lager (Hog's Back TEA, Langham's Halfway to Heaven, and Peroni on draft), and good wine list.
Food is not cheap for a pub but it is top notch pub grub. Calve's liver was superb and the pork loin in Parma ham (might have been panchetta actually...) was fantastic. Desserts were equally sumptuous; sticky toffee bread and butter pudding, and baked Alaska. Cheese board looked great but that will be next time.
And there will be a next time.

Recently had a meal at the Mulberry and also stayed in one of the three guest rooms that evening. The room was smart and tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and the bed was big and very comfortable with a luxurious feather duvet. The one downside was that although the lighting in the room was nice for creating a mood it would also be good if there was the option of some ceiling lights as well - at times the room felt gloomy.
As for the food in the pub it is very good but its punching above its weight on price. Ive had better in a gastro pub. The wine list was also a bit lacking and the run of the mill aperitif I asked for before dinner was unavailable. Also, the ice machine had unfortunately broken down on our visit which limited the choice of drinks still further.
All in all though a nice experience.

Like cloudy beer? We were told that Langham's Festive-Ale was meant to be so. When we asked for it to be changed, we were told that Young's was also meant to look like that. Left it. Get a life or stop pretending to be a pub.

We went to the Mulberry Tree for lunch on Saturday. The pub is a couple of miles south of Chiddingfold and easily found. THis was our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised to find a good range of beers, decent food and nice atmosphere. I ordered a steak sandwich & my partner had sea bass on a bed of risotto, both were very good. As it was very warm and sunny, we sat in the large garden and relaxed with our drinks. I would recommend this pub as the service is good, the food is good and its a great location.

above average for food but pricey

I enjoyed my visit to the pub. Was looking for somewhere to eat and found it by chance. We new it was an Evans pub though so thought we'd give it a go.
It was a bit quiet but it was half six on a Monday night so should say thats normal. We found the food to be really good with a great choice on the menu but it was a little expensive. Nice surroundings and friendly staff. Was quite impressed with the 50% donation to CHASE

Absolutely loved this place, thought the food was wonderful and in no way as expensive as people are making out. Given the husband and I had a three course meal, I thought that the the 54 (excluding wine) was exceptional. I will most certainly be going back. :)

As with a lot of pubs in this area it now concentrates on food, which it does really well and for this area is quite good value (but not cheap). Good selection of bitters on tap. Owned by Chris Evans a percentage of the profits go to a local children's (CHASE) hospice and staff get their fair share of the added service charge - so you can feel good whilst you're enjoying yourselves. It still has its wooden beams and other original features, but now coupled with leather sofas and polished wood floors.

A very poor menu for a Saturday night. 3 salads available as main courses... was the chef on holiday? Had a real struggle finding anything that was decent. Very expensive steak at 22!!!!! Nice enough place and done up to a high standard, but they should really work on their menus to make it more exciting as a chicken and rocket salad doesn't do it for me on a Saturday night!

I have been here a couple of times and really like the place.

You don't go for the food as it's average at best. Very dissapointing and over-priced. Tries to be a modern, dare I say 'cool', destination in the countryside. Give me an open fire and warm hospitality everytime - I will not be going back.

Though located on a main road, this attractive pub has a lovely garden and small terrace which is very nice on a summers day. Friendly attentive staff particularly if you plan to dine. Menu short but interesting-- can thorougly recommend the salmon & Prawn fishcakes which are available as starter or main meal. Visited twice recently at lunch time -- almost empty first time but second time round carpark filled up rapidly within an hour. Seems popular place for ladies to meet up with friends for lunch and a chinwag-- though not quite a yummy mummies hangout.
