Stopped off for a family meal. Received a very friendly welcome from the staff.
The food was fantastic value, my gammon was perfect but a bit too much even for my tum.
Clean toilets, great views.
Four real ales on, two from Ringwood, two from Wychwood and real cider from Addlestones.
Happy customers.

Nautical themed pub on Shanklin Esplanade. Several Ringwood beers on tap when I visited which were well kept. Various seating areas, nooks and crannies all furnished with practically any type of sailing / seaside memorabilia you can imagine as well as low beams. Large outside seating area, extensive menu, daily seafood specials and huge portions of good quality food. Staff friendly and quick service (although it was not busy when we visited). Great to take the family to, well worth a visit.

Busy food bar, good area outside to sit,4 beers on 2 from Ringwood, bitter and 49er.had a good pint of Goddard's fuggle de dum.
|
Always good beer, food very nice, good crab and prawn salad. Lovely sea views and pleasant patio area.
|
Sold Island Brewery beer. Pleasant enough inside. Food menu is vast which always make me wonder a bit. Nice view out to sea.

very good pint of goddards in here.great views ,worth a visit.the new irish bar foleys just along the front had great guinness as well.

Went here almost every night during my holiday and found this to be a very fine place with a terrace view that would inspire even the most pessimistic. Food is very decent, especially the Papardelle dishes, and they do have some good beers on offer, usually from one of the Isles breweries.

Visited on a hot sunny day as always with the IOW. Fab place that we go back to and back to, mighty fine Goddard's ales on - suits me fine. Good outdoor seating area and anyting food wise from buttie through to full monty dinners.
Great place - luverley view

Located halfway along the sea front, the pub has a large outside area which part of it is covered. It has a large bar with a nautical theme and a good range of beers including the local beer Goddard's Fuggle-dee-dum. Food was a bit expensive for a tourist bar. Seating is more laid for the sale of food than drinking but was reasonably comfortable.

Good food, nice location & friendly staff

Uninspiring Brews? This place serves Goddards Fugle de Dum - which is a locally made real ale fit for the gods! Anyone claiming to be a real ale drinker would sing it's praises. Food is acceptable and good value - but hey (with reference to previous reviews) it is a beachfront pub for goodness sake! if you go to this place expectiong 5 star quality then yes you are going to be disappointed.

One of three bars in a row that try to emulate some kind of Marbella style beach front bar (except that there is a min road with buses running along it between them and the beach). It seemed okay for what it was and they had ale but it was pretty uninspiirng insipid brews. Strangely enough the best pub of the day at the end of the Esplanade in it's own little under cliff location (the inspiration for the Yates Undercliff ale which was best pint of the day) is not listed.

Great location and view of the sea but thats were the positives stop! The food was beyond bad - the salmon special on asparagus came to us as frozen and re-heated in a microwave so there was no surprise when the veg was rubbery (you couldnt cut through the asparagus) and the salmon totally overcooked and dry. It was a little surprise however to find lumps of dirt on the potatoes and moldy, dirty cauliflower! My sauteed mushrooms in garlic sauce was a bowl of slop like campbells mushroom soup, only a great deal worse. The tables were also left dirty and uncleaned for the duration of our time there (which admittedly wasnt long). Such a shame for a pub in such a great location with this view.

Beer okay, great location, let down by food though, salad was limp and looked like it had been sat around all day, day 1: greasy burgers, thought we'd give the place another go, day 2: fish overcooked, had to ask for cloth to clean table ourselves. just go there for the view which is fantastic.
|
fantastic location but they let themselves down by not cleaning the outside tables which had grease and beer stains over them. Beer was good quality but a bit pricey but the food was very good and above average in quality.
|
Still pricey, now 3.10 for cheapest ale on my latest visit, so you're paying 40-50p more than in the other Shanklin pubs. The food is not bad, but fairly average and again pricey for what it is. The gents toilet were also in a bit of state, paper everywhere, which can put you off! On the plus side it is in a lovely location, and the beers are always in good condition, but you will come out lighter in pocket than in the other Shanklin pubs.
|
Good food although sometimes have a very average meal. Always go back for the view out to sea and the pleasant atmosphere.
|
Always have a good evening here, good beers, good live music and food nice. Good atmosphere with all the naval stuff
|
Cardinal sin - no toilet paper in the gents. Beer too cold. Interesting naval memorabilia.
|
Fine food and 6 cask ale offerings, including some guest ales. Not bad at all.
|
Good range of bitters, and fair size menu. A bit pricey on the drinks and food, but I guess that's because of it's location. Fair amount of outside seating, but not overly big inside, so seating inside is a bit tight.

Excellent food and ale. Good service, even when busy.

This pub has quality food and excellent service from the very friendly staff especially Robin the manager. My husband and I stay here in one of there balcony rooms at least twice a year and we are always made to feel very welcome.
