Great pub, fantastic range of ales, beer well looked after, food looks great!

I'm slightly surprised by the the low ratings this pub has attracted, though many were some years ago, and i presume it has changed significantly since then.

I found it a pleasant corner pub, away from the hub bub of the King's Road. It is a bit gastro, but no shame in that. Food is pretty good, useful selection of wines, and decent beer. Seems to attract a nice mix of people, and well worth holing up in a for a few hours

More of a gastropub than an old-fashioned boozer but quite nice all the same, deep in the heart of Chelsea, with a couple of good cask beers on and a friendly atmosphere.

Used to be a great pub but has SERIOUSLY gone down hill after the former landlady moved to another Geronimo pub. We went for dinner and were told to wait a few minutes. LIARS!!!! After over an hour and seeing people who arrived later being given tables without having reserved, we left. It seems that unless you know the new manager, forget about being served. DO NOT GO HERE!

I went there with the MCC team yesterday fter we'd had a match at nearby Burton's Court. Quite a pleasant pub actually but a little 'younger' than I'd prefer. Nevertheless, the Adnams was in good nick, the food looked good and there were lots of lovely young ladies enjoying themselves with their friends. The one annoying feature was the bloke who stood at the door and kept telling us to stand on the pavement. There weren't exactly any cars wanting to get past! I'd certainly go there again.

Spiffingly good boozer, with a decent London on tap and Bitburger and Warsteiner adding to a niche angle to the place. Well known for decent food and enough out the way from the King's Road not to have a mass of people, just enough to give it an atmosphere. Recommend coming here on Sundays lunches or Saturday afternoons, especially the latter in summer. Do not have the Bloody Mary - awful

Absolutely charming place with great food.

I used to go here a lot; it's changed a bit in the last few years. Not as great as it used to be, but I have to say i had a pretty good evening - friendly waitress, food was perfectly OK, though it didn't set the world alight.. Obviously the manager has rubbed some people up the wrong way - he didn't serve us so I can't comment. not at all bad in my experience though.

I have to disagree with the most recent reviews - I had an excellent meal here the other evening, two of us had 3 courses and it came in at 35 a head including all drinks/wine. Personally, I don't think that's at all bad for this part of London, especially when the food was really tasty, well-portioned & home cooked. Our waitress was lovely & attentive (despite being rushed off her feet!) and the service was great - having worked in the catering world in the past, I appreciated that service wasn't included - I knew that anything I left would actually go to the staff, and not the owner's pocket. I wish there were more places like this around: it's relaxed & they make you feel really welcome.

I wish I could call in an air strike on this place. It's that bad. Bad service, overpriced food and a manager that is pure shite. I give it a solid -5 rating...

All teh bad things you read about it are true, sadly.

This place has all the charm of a rotting dead pigeon mouldering quietly on top of a vandalised bus shelter.

It says service not included on the bill, and they're not kidding! The service was, well, diabolical.
What a shame this pub is managed by a complete and utter arsehole. When we mentioned that our chips had not arrived, instead of apologising - he insisted that he had given us the right number of portions and accused us of not working well as a group!?

I feel sorry for the rest of the staff who seem pretty positive considering who they're working for!

Had great potential from the outside but that's where you should stay!
Having recieved a main course the size of a walnut the pretentious chaf said 'that iz how it zhould be.' Having worked as a chef in the King of Gastro pubs The Griffin I know only to well that 'it wazn't howz it zould bez', you tit.

Pretentious pub serving over-priced, over-cooked 'medallions of food' filled with human body parts.

The service is at another level though...the head waiter Aiden was the rudest person I have ever met in ANY service industry. I've met scaffolders with better manners. If things go wrong, apologise and sort it out. Don't blame your customers and then try to embarass them. You only embarass yourself.

If you are thinking of going here, DO NOT. Forget the Phoenix analogy, this place just needs burning down.

Hopefully with Aiden locked inside. He'll never get chance to ruin someone else's special day out again...

What a shame that this ambient pub is let down by the surly and rude nature of the staff.
The food was very overpriced for what it was, and pretty overcooked.
I would not recommend this place unless there was a downpour and you needed a place to shelter for 10 minutes.
beadgirl - 6 Dec 2004 15:05
This place looked nice enough, but then you get to meet a man by the name of Aiden who is one of the rudest people you ever will meet. You would think if you found a fingernail in your soup that the staff would be apologetic. Instead we get told too bad as we should have said something earlier. What a JOKE!
From the previous comments on this so called gastro pub, its obvious that being rude is their specialty
linds - 6 Dec 2004 12:59
used to have some atmosphere, now gone and staff unfriendly. wont be going back
heather - 20 Aug 2004 23:12
They say the Phoneix rises from the ashes - I guess that is the reason my food was overcooked so badly! Not really up to it's 'gastro pub' pretensions. Food very average and staff unfriendly - feels like a conveyer belt.

the best in this pub is the people is working in and the nice customers. Anesta, Raoul, Josephine, Julia .... are the best !!
I big hug for all of you from me

I find the staff extremely friendly

Great food but very smokey which isnt nice when you are eating. Needs Aircon!
anonymous - 21 Mar 2004 12:16
Sorry but I really like this pub, it is, I agree, slightly pretentious, but beer, food and service is very good.
Xavier - 25 Sep 2003 11:32
Awful is to kind a word for this try hard dump. Food is dressed down gastro pub and the service is abysmal. If you like your Guinness served with a head like a bad cappuccino then this is your place. This is proof that a few comfy seats and some wooden floors doesn't a gastropub make. I would also recommend paying cash unless you want someone else's bottles of champagne on your bill!

A real shame as the pub has real potential - customers very Chelsea local.
