Kings Arms, Fernhurstback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Now back open - as the Kings Arms this time. New owners and a new feel.
Bar still in the same position, but there's now more room and it's a lot brighter with a lick of paint. Ale was well kept and reasonable price for the area.
The barn is now a curry restaurant, so not sure how that will compete.
The garden has been tidied up and offers good views of the countryside.

This is under new management / ownership. There are some differences - previosly it was a restaurant that offered beer, now its a pub, some beer - lacks imagination that does poor food. No micros - ' what are they ' was the reply. Clearly had a quick changeover, as they forgot to complete / undertake any cleaning prior to opening.the corners are full of cobwebs and tables are sticky. Pretty basic stuff really. Beer , well the usuaul culprits, nothing special, and all a bit dull. Food - don't bother. The menu reads well, but just doesn't deliver ! Fish Friday [ pre frozen ] & fries ! - described as 'traditional' Note to Handsome Pig, get a chef or even a cook in, who can actually cook, and deliver what you say ''on the tin''. Mashed pots is simple , but complete with lumps is just unacceptable, and plain lazy !!...& you expect us to pay for that .... A good drive out to find it - don't bother - just drive on past - or stay with where you know.!

now called the handsome pig.
real ale is back on. Gone back to being a pub, but has an odd layout.
worth a visit

This is not a brewery owned place - which is great ! It is beautifully maintained.
There is no Fullers , Youngs or any of those awful other so called 'ales ' by the big five out of London.
We enjoyed a good pint of JW Lees, IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, and following some negotiation enjoyed some lovely food, which was excellent value for money.experiencing the specials early bird offer. Food very good, certainly would not bother with the Red Lion or DOC, both just down the road again.!

definitely set up for the restaurant goer....however, had ale on pumps when I visited, maybe no more keg beer?
if a nice day, you can sit outside, though half the garden was sealed off for the barn - whether that was temporary as there was a function due to take place, or whether it is now the norm, can't say for sure.
as there is no bar as such, don't go there for a drink on a wet day...otherwise you'll be sitting in a restaurant supping beer..or getting wet outside..not for a session, but ok if passing by..or on a country pub crawl..

Now purely a restaurant so you must book a meal if you want a drink. Only keg beer on offer so no real ale or cider (source: Sussex Drinker - Spring 2011).

What a shame. This pub looks so good from the outside but the manager in particular is clueless.
Went there for Sunday lunch, two beers available, the local TEA by HogsBack and Doombar from Cornwall. The Doombar was OK, but the TEA was well past its sell-by date, tasted of vineger and not nice vineger at that! When I asked for a replacement the manager made no apology for serving up out-of date beer. With only 2 beers on, how hard is it to taste it each day to make sure it's OK?
The food was OK, but they had managed to turn the countries favourite, fish and chips, into a sad pastiche of what good fish and chips is. Very little for the veggie here as well.
Don't stop, carry on to the Rd Lion by the green in Fernhurst, a much friendlier place with well kept cellar.

One caveat. Encouraged by good reviews on this site we made a 30 mile detour with the intention of having a couple of drinks and some food Sat pm at 17.00. We had checked the website first which advertises food available all day and there is also a notice outside which says that food is served from 12.00 to 21.00. However we were told "we don't start serving until 18.00". 0/10 for customer service and communication.

Very nice food at reasonable prices (circa 10 for mains), well kept beer and friendly landlords. It's obviously a very old building with a lot of character; my only gripe would be that the refub mentioned below somehow strips a bit of this away and makes it feel like a fairly standard pub interior that you might also find in a new build. That may just be my personal tastes though - overall remains a good option if you're in the area.

Very nice pub located in lovely countryside, although it is by the side of a busy, main road, which makes the garden a little noisy. Only two hand pumps on, but this means there is a good throughput of beer. The Langhams was superb-better than at the Duke of Cumberland down the road (and they keep it well).
The Steak and Ale Pie was very nice. It was perhaps a little on the small side, but very tasty. Well worth a visit.

Visited for lunch, excellent chioce of menu's.... Lovely Steak and Kidney Pie, very friendly staff and comfortable.... I will be returning, as soon as i can, give these guys a try, you wont be disapointed

The pub has been recently refurbished and is a very comfortable and pleasant environment.
Had an outstanding Sunday Lunch which was fantastic value compared to other pubs in the area.
Definitely will be returning.

I would like to say that this pub had improved since being taken over by new owners and chef this year, however I don't think they have quite got their act together yet. I have been at lunchtime and the food, ambience etc was excellent despite the uncomfortable seating area, however I went again recently, a large function was on in the barn, which left very little food for anyone in the main pub. After having had to make 3 choices as the food had run out of supplies, we left to a pub down the road which had plenty of food available! Great shame as its in such a great location, lets hope they get their act together soon and cater for anyone who drops in for food.

Excellent food and wine which leans heavily on classics, but those classics include corn beef hash and ham & eggs as well as coq au vin and some really fine fish and game. Welcoming, sensible service. Proper bar too, not just a restaurant, where you can enjoy tobacco products, the day's newspapers and some good beer. Separate barn for functions. Simply a great traditional inn. Downside? Erm..

This is a great little pub: the food is really excellent and it merits the tag 'gastro-pub'. Great, interesting beer selections, very quiet sometimes, but always pretty full for lunches at weekend. The prices are restauarnt level, but as the comment above says, this is not pub food at all - it has been on one or two occasions really fine cooking indeed.

Great looking 17th Century pub positioned just outside the village of Fernhurst on the A286 between Haslemere and Midhurst. Pub is surrounded by fields (camping can be organised by prior arrangement)and has a function barn which hosts the annual Beer Festival. Pub serves Guinness imported from Dublin and supports real ale Micro Breweries by selling 5 interesting beers from around the British Isles. All food served in the pub is bought from local suppliers, (village butchers, fruit & veg shop and daily fish collected from fish market in Portsmouth),prepared and cooked in the pub. NO FROZEN RUBBISH HERE! The regulars in the pub are extremely friendly and revel in the fact that the pub has no machines and background music either!! You've got to visit this pub to see just how great it is. Sunday roast cooked to perfection and minus the petrol sheen!!
