Now redecorated, with a new Guv'nor and decent beer (usual Waddies range). Give it a try.

Hmmm! the words Dummy! and pram! spring to mind i must say!
The real disappointment here is the temporary landlord of two weeks prior your visit was not made permanent!
|
What a disappointment - supposed to do food every day - went there with a group on a visit to several pubs in Newbury yesterday and NO FOOD. We had done a recce between Christmas and New Year when there was no food but had been assured then that food was normally available every lunchtime - just not on because of Christmas hols. What a let-down. I hope it has a few customers in the evenings as there weren't any till we went in on both accasions. Depressing place and, on the evidence available, won't survive much longer.

Now just a dull sport orientated pub with TV screens everywhere pumping out SkySport. Why bother.
|
One of the better Newbury pubs, it's just a basic boozer really but none the worse for that.

The crawl is taking me off the beaten track now. Never been down these lanes - pub soon found. This strikes me as a really good boozer. Any pub that has a poster of Julian Cope up must be cook. Not really into his music, but its shows good taste. Barman or Landlord was very friendly - sat at the bar with the Mail and attempted the Saduko. This is an occupational hazard after pint number 5. Good pint of Wadworth 6X.

Good beer - well kept but a bit pricey (but that does keep the chavs out). Heavily into sport particularly rugby. This is where you go to watch ruby if there's a clash with football on TV. Friendly and efficient staff plus a pool table. Worth finding (it's down a side street off the main shopping street).

The landlord (Pete & Sharon) have turned this place around. Good selection of well kept ales and lager. Good pub grub. Plenty of flat screens for sport. Pool table. Decent crowds in there most nights, although mostly blokes.

Out-of-the-way Pub. Hidden off the High Street. No parking at all. Beer good and well maintained and served. Guest Ales. Food good and reasonably priced. Landlord excellent, and always has a friendly welcome.
However, this pub has started on the old 'Wrinkelys Nights' discos. So now full of people all trying to turn the clock back 20 years and pretend they're still young again, or the sort of people who have met over the internet and don't want anyone else to know.
Used to be a great pub...now just iffy.
Apparently the landlord is going soon and a new one is taking over, so maybe he can turn it round, and get some young people back in there. Or at least a FEW people under 40 please.
