Sadly hosts Nina and Giles have moved on to pastures new and the pub has had two changes of Landlord since November '18. Do not expect the quality food and beer that was their Marque currently.

This warm and welcoming village pub is in new hands and now a Free House. Hosts Giles and Nina, both well experienced and accomplished chefs have created a dining heaven in Oxon.- The beers are great too from West Berkshire Brewery. Sunday lunch is a must, so is the weekday fare....Try it soon you will not be disappointed.

What a great pub. I visit regularly (though I live some way away) and have just realised that I have never left a review. In my experience the beers have always been good. The food is fine though not fancy, extra marks in my book. Prices are sensible, very good value. The landlady is always friendly and helpful and the pub cosy if you are inside, quiet if you are in the garden. Well worth a bit of a detour and there is great walking (and bike riding) nearby.

I hope I am not stepping over the mark by making a comment on the previous comment on this site. I am the landlady of The Sun Inn and just felt I need to put the record straight. The young lady who was serving on this particular day had only just joined us. This is not excuse as she should have known that we were serving food as we served seven days a week. I am also very concerned as I am Cask Marque Accredited that the Real Ale was not top notch as it should be. Obviously I need to address these matter and more training will be given. As to our Fish and Chips I can assure any reader that we do make our own batter and do not buy in brought fish already battered. If we state homemade on the menu then it is. Our fish and chips are very popular choice for many of my regular diners. At to the comment on how we survive off the beaten track the answer is simple. We have been here five and half years and our survival is down to satisfied customer who return time here and time again.

The Sun sits in a tiny little hamlet and its hard to see how it has survived in this location. But survived it has.
When we arrived fairly early in the lunch period we ordered our beer and asked the young lady behind the bar if they were doing food. "I'll ask" she said. This rang alarm bells. Surely barstaff should know if food is available or not - this is not something you need to ask, surely.
Beer was Brakspear Bitter, Ringwood Boondoggle and, unusually, Banks's Fine Fettle. We started with the latter and the first pint was fine, but the second was not so good and that slight tang of vinegar started to make itself apparent. I then tried the Boondoggle but this was if anything even less impressive. My fellow drinkers were also not that struck with the beer quality.
Food - we ordered Fish and Chips, Italian Sausage Casserole and Beef Stew. It was cheap, they were £7.50. £8.50 and £8.95 respectively. The fish was oblong and clearly from a packet, which then lends suspicion to the origin of the others. Food was hot and was perfectly acceptable though.
There were a few other customers present during our stay so moderate business was being done. My two colleagues had been to the Sun before and told me it was well worth a visit, but they said that it wasn't as good this time and I felt that it could have provided a better experience with just a little more effort.
My review seems a little at odds with the previous ones on here so maybe it's changed hands.

Nice country pub, friendly staff and locals, better-than-average Brakspear's from Marston's - on my visit they had sold out of the non-Marston's guest (Hooky Dark).

Always good pub grub and a decent pint. The ladies who run it are very friendly and efficient.

Absolutley lovely little pub!! I found it very quaint and the food was deliously and almost all of it was home made which made it even better, the staff were very friendly and were happy to help with my husbands dietry requirements which was brilliant. The beer was lovely and just how i would expect an old country pub to be.

Lovely, comfortable pub off the beaten track. Decent beer, real pub food cheerfully and generously served. More mature customers clearly appreciate, and so do I.

Visited on a Sunday just before 2pm and the pub looked very empty and lifeless. The pub was closing at 4pm for a private function (relevant?). After serving our drinks we were told "There's no food". This despite the fact that it was within their posted food time. "how about a sandwich?". We were refused even that. We thought the service was cold and unfriendly. We will not be back. Pity because the Brakspears bitter was good.

Good beer, good honest pub food, and a special offer of Irish stew free with your first pint of Guinness on St Patrick's Day. The place was almost empty at 7.15pm on a Saturday night (!!!) I can't think why as the staff are friendly and helpful, and the food prices are very reasonable. We were the only ones having a meal, though several regulars arrived in the bar in the time we were there, including one man bringing in chicken, goose and turkey eggs which are for sale in the pub. A very pleasant evening.

Lovely Local Pub in a beautiful setting. Brakspears Bitter about �2.60 I believe. A range of other beer and lagers, including Stella Artois �2.90 a pint. Lovely big garden, Childrens play area. Incredibly cheap food. Excellent Beef baguette �3.10. Main meals from about �4.50. Sunday Lunch �6.95. Car Park. Accesible by public transport, 142 bus from Pangbourne or Reading. Popular with Walkers and Cyclists. Food served from 12 noon till 3pm, and evefry evening apart from Sunday and Wednesday 6.30pm till 9pm. Lovely for pub lunch or a summer evening. Locals quite friendly.
