Hasn't changed. Not impressed with the beer quality. Picked up on mumblings about poor quality generally during visit...

A real village pub and always busy. It has two distinct areas inside, a proper original bar well used by locals and a restaurant area which, unusually these days, has proper white table linen. Outside is a huge covered area for smokers and anyone else that wants fresh air, there is also a good play area for children and a decent sized car park. Beers are the usual suspects including Doombar and are well kept, the pub would not be so popular with beer drinking locals if they weren't. Food is good pub grub and in all the times I've been there to eat, which is dozens, I've always had a decent meal. Week days for lunch and dinner (but not Fridays) you can have a shortened menu for £10.95 for two courses which is excellent value. Service is always friendly. Because it's popular it's worth booking as I've had a couple of occasions when the place has been full and one was a Monday evening.

Still open. Not much changed in 2 years, on reflection I'm not sure anything had changed in nearly two years...

Attended function with about 25 people. Food good but not all as expected, e.g. sticky toffee pudding was simply treacle pud, apple crumble was not crumbly, more like a pie or pudding. Roast dinner, soup and pate all very nice, but at 18.95 + 10% for 3 courses it ought to be. Coffee turned out to be included in price, but this was unclear until bill arrived, so we missed out, although they had run out of decaff anyway. Would have had tea if known price was included at time of ordering. Ale was OK (Doombar) though a bit pricey. No disabled toilet found.

Continues to serve the locals in half the bar area with the rest being an eatery...Guinness now 3.50, Courage Best, Broadside and Doombar the real ales on offer. Staff range from very good to OK but sometimes you wonder why your waiting when there's two or three bodies out and about fluffing table cloths and napkins.

Went here over the Christmas holiday-first visit for many years-not impressed-over half the pub is an over the top dining area with poncy linen tablecloths and napkins. Beer mediocre and service poor-the barmaid disappeared despite my holding up a tenner and clearly awaiting service-ominous notices about CCTV and drug dealing-has this been a problem in sleepy Thorpe?

Some improvements since the last visit with the gents getting a make over. Resturant doing a good trade.
|
Been a while since I clossed the threshold... A few locals still using (keeping the PUB going). Food ticking over. A couple of very nice ladies serving. Beer on the expensive side and inconsistant ( seems to be a norm in this area...) It looks sad, is sad, perhaps it ought to be renamed The Sad Lion???

Understand the chief is on his way at the end of the month.

Great village pub that caters for all. Plush separate dining area with extensive and imaginative menu, large garden and main bar. Usually 3 ales, Adnams Broadside was good. Varied Live music on Saturdays and sometimes at Sunday lunchtime to. Only negative - ladies loos are in dire need of a makeover.

I didn't like this. A funny lay-out, with a large, empty dining room off to the left, and all of the customers crammed into the fairly cramped main bit of the bar. Lots of different screens showing sport (including Premiership football screened from an unknown European country...) and it was difficult to know where to stand to avoid disturbing people's sightlines. A somewhat local clientele with kids running round everywhere, which is always off-putting. A couple of ales on but service was poor.

Pub undergoing a major change so let`s all be tolerant - at least you don`t have to wait 10 mins to get served while the old Geordie landlady sat and watched!
|
what did they do to it, karen the old geordie landlady was great! a proper old local, you know rough around the edges and all that. but because i used to go in every night after work you became one of the family! and now... chainsville.... plastic menus, pool table and dart board gone, the atmosphere has dwindelled, been in a few times recently, i feel the life has been sucked out of the place somewhat.. a shame

TV now available Located AWAY from main dining area.
|
Lovely old pub from the front. Not sure what's going on beyond but looks as though some 'home improvements' are in progress. Not sure about the 6 ft high fencing for the beer garden though? 3 beers on tap in reasonable condition.

Food getting good reviews Changes still ongoing inside and out (mostly for the better). A work in progress ... but moving towards food and away from trad pub.
|
Not too bad a place, usual unimaginative choice of 2 ales (Pride and Courage) but a good pint of Best.
Pool tables take up too much room and get in the way. Found some of the customers a bit 'local' for my liking, felt like me and my mate were getting the stares.
Maybe worth a stop, but if you'e close enough to Egham and want a pint, there are more compelling places a few minutes drive away like the Royal Marine in Lyne.

Used to be a great pub but everyone just seemed to stop going here for some reason. Why??!

Village Pub tucked out of the way. Large car park (but don't leave your car over night). A garden and childrens play area (although the litle so and so's feel free to run round the pub!) Food on offer although I would stick to the crisps. Beers on offer include Old Speckled Hen (norm v good), Courage best, Fosters, Stella, Carling. Pool table and two larish flat screen TV's. Downsides - too hot in summer, too cold in winter. Always too smokey. Service inconsistant, ranges from very good to very, very slow. Area has members of the "travelling" community and they have been known to use the pub.

Village Pub. Good range of beers if somewhat variable quality. At time of writing the quality of the staff (one/two exceptions) and the customers has declined probably due to the recent change in ownership (now Punch?) and management. Most locals friendly enough but the odd member of the caravan-club have been known to frequent. Don't leave your car in the car park over night! Currently suffering from being too child friendly during the early evenings and weekends. Has been over popular with temp staff from Thorpe Park historically but this seems to have declined in recent years. Building in need of some TLC and it can be too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Food seems popular but I'd stick to the crisps. Couple of large flat screen TV's which have shown Prem Plus but the viewing is impared by there location. In all a pub in transition but one which isn't sure where its trying to get to.
