The Red Lion, Thorpe
A real village pub and always busy. It has two distinct areas inside, a proper original bar well used by locals and a restaurant area which, unusually these days, has proper white table linen. Outside is a huge covered area for smokers and anyone else that wants fresh air, there is also a good play area for children and a decent sized car park.
Beers are the usual suspects including Doombar and are well kept, the pub would not be so popular with beer drinking locals if they weren't.
Food is good pub grub and in all the times I've been there to eat, which is dozens, I've always had a decent meal. Week days for lunch and dinner (but not Fridays) you can have a shortened menu for £10.95 for two courses which is excellent value. Service is always friendly. Because it's popular it's worth booking as I've had a couple of occasions when the place has been full and one was a Monday evening.
