please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A miserable crappy pub in a concrete jungle of flats. Staffed by gormless unenthusiastic eastern european types with no ability or knowledge. It's youngs so the beer is always going to be poor despite the high prices. Halfway through my pint of Youngs bitter my guts started to complain and I had to dash to the bogs, no mean feat as they are some distance away, but just about made it. I had to break into (vandalise) the toilet roll holder in order to get any arse wipe. Needless to say I didn't finish the pint and will not return.

Youngs pub on the waterfront. A pint of Youngs gold was £4.15, which is either expensive or cheap depending on where you normally drink! The spirits were expensive, but by signing up to their newsletter you got a free drink. My email confirmation came through in 10 mins. Pleasant enough but a bit soulless

Still a nice, smart modern pub, nicest when at its quietest.
Some drinks are very steep - I was amazed to receive a receipt on which a double G&T was itemised as 2 singles and a mixer, total £9.60

Charmless and souless on the inisde, nice view on the outside - on a sunny day! Unfortuantely, I came in here to get out of the rain. Wish I got soaked instead now. Ordered a pint of Young's London Gold. It was completely tastless due to having a policy of 'no beer can be served too cold'. If you like to taste your ale, go to the nearby Morpeth Arms just over the bridge instead.

Went to the Riverside today for lunch, was very dissappointing, service quite poor, all three choices we made for lunch were off the menu and what we eventually had didn't offer value for money at all. Also, I would agree with other comments re prices on drinks, whilst the location is nice being on the river, Youngs have got it wrong here.

Nice pub with a lovely setting on the river, you can't go wrong here if you are wanting an outside warm summers evening drink. Ideally located not too far away from the Oval so its a good choice of pub if you want to try and avoid busy pubs after watching the cricket and don't mind walking for about 1o minutes. Good varied choice of drinks and clean facilities too....

Only go to this pub if its sunny - otherwise it's overpriced for what it is but on a sunny evening on the patio it's a great place for a drink and also really good for large groups as they're fine about reserving tables for free. It's one of themost expensive pubs I've been to, really hitting the top of what you'd expect to pay even in central London but the service is quick, staff are friendly.

Amazing location, polite staff, not cheap but you wouldn't expect it to be. Full of snooty suits at lunchtime. Herb pots on the tables outside was a nice touch (small things!)
Though for a Youngs pub you might expect them to know when a barrel needs changing and not serve a pint of cloudy vinegar... 7/10 purely for the view.
popalug - 3 Jun 2011 13:36
nice layout, great position with views across the Thames and nice beer range... the problem lies with the food - not great, too expensive for what you get
PabloM - 9 Nov 2010 15:08
In Summer this place is PACKED outside, and you can't really go wrong being by the river. Haven't eaten here in a while after feeling that it was just a touch too pricey for what you were getting. But nice selection of booze, and the bar staff seem to know what they're doing. For now...!

Smart, modern pub with excellent riverside views (not only from the extensive seating outside on the terrace but also from within as the place has large floor-to-ceiling windows). The main problem seems to be the atmosphere, which can be as chilly inside as it may be windswept along the riverbank. Beer-wise, there are four handpumps dispensing three Youngs/Wells beers (Bombardier, London Gold and a fine pint of Ordinary) plus a guest (Old Hooky when I visited).

I reviewed this pub last year and have recently returned. I should have listened to the old reviews on here again before i went back!!!! What an aweful place it has turned into. The food has dropped to Weatherspoon standard but they are charging michilin prices and the brilliant customer service that they once had now represents Mac Donalds. I spoke with the female manager who claimed to be the landlady who gave the impression that it was the end of the world, never have i seem someone so down about their job. If she's not happy, how do you expect the staff to be?! Anyway, i'm definately staying away this year, will report again next summer i guess!!

I think people are a little hard on this place. Yes it is modern, but tastefully so. Big and comfy and perfect Youngs bitter (pretty steep, as others mention.) V nice on a late Sunday afternoon.
AbeC - 23 Apr 2008 23:00
It might be by the water, but spending time here is pretty depressing, catering to a mixture of residents from the above dystopian nightmare more commonly known as 'luxury flats' and nearby office workers seemingly with more money than taste.

It looks rather like mid-range hotel bar - with the atmosphere to match. Anyone after a better pub experience in the area would be advised to look on BITE at some of the other pubs in Vauxhall - there are three or four better places nearby.

Having decided to give the Riverside a try, even though the reviews might have suggested otherwise I have to say I was amazed at the improvement in service, food and over all atmosphere.
Two of my friends had had a bad experience with a surly waiter in the past, but it was obvious to me that they have a new management team and as we didnt recognise any of the staff a new floor and bar team too!
The problems seem to have been fixed, we enjoyed our meal, and left much later and much merrier than planned. Will be back!!

I had booked a table at The Riverside as recommended by a friend for Sunday lunch last week but upon reading these reviews, whilst looking for directions, i got rather concened.

We were greated upon arrival by a very friendly waiter who gave us an outside table with great views down the river.

We were informed that The Riverside had recently employed a new head chef due to problems with food quality and we were handed menus that looked rather appetising. Most of us had the Sunday roast which was a plate full of succulent meat and veg but a couple of the party were more adventurous and opted for the Kangaroo burger and Whole Roasted Sea Bass which both had great reviews.

i would definately recommend The Riverside as a venue. Yes it isn't cheap but you get what you pay for! (we paid 13.95 for a roast and 2.90 for a pint of Bitter)

Way too pricey
Snorebens - 22 Jun 2007 12:09
Indeed not worth the hassle - proper pubs can be found in Vauxhall/South Lambeth/ Stockwell. Proper restaurants can be found in South Lambeth/ Clapham/ Pimlico
mooose - 3 Jun 2007 23:09
Utter rubbish pub - pretending to be restaurant and charging restaurant prices. Not worth the hassle - stay away and hopefully the parent company will take notice and make it into a decent pub

We visited this pub as a group on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon as it has a great outside location. But the service was terrible, the waiters were slow and the meals took ages to arrive, We asked twice for sauces, and even had to go inside to try and get them ourselves. The menu had no affordable vegetarian option (14! - for vege lasagne - a joke!), the 9.50 burger with chips was an overcooked, dry burger and came with about 5 chips on the side. A disgrace. Even on a warm day I would not visit again. We refused to pay the 12.5% service charge. I noticed another group with the same troubles too! I begrudgingly give it 3/10 as at least they got the pimms and lemonade right.

I wanted to like the Riverside, as there are not many other options in Vauxhall. However, I have to say it depresses me going there. I have found the service consistently disappointing, having waited ages to get served, even when the bar is mostly empty. They stock some nice beers and spirits, but the prices are too high, especially considering the sub standard service you get.
rum_n_coke - 10 May 2007 22:08
Yes we were hit by the 12.5% service charge on a recent visit for service that was unexceptional and slow. In total we paid 53 for two single course meals from the Sunday menu and one bottle of white wine - daylight robbery!
mooose - 11 Apr 2007 12:05
Punters beware - the waiters will charge a 12.5% service charge to carry your drinks to your table, which in our case was a mere five yards.
holbornboy - 3 Apr 2007 09:31
there are a lot of people I work with who love going to the Riverside for a drink afterwork, and for the life of me I cannot understand why. First and foremost it isnt a pub, its a wine bar/restuarant, in that an interior designer has put a lot of effert in which is reflected in the price of everything, and when I say it is pricey, its prepare to remortgage your home sort of pricey. That and the majority of the tables are taken up in preperation for diners.
I think of the food as average, it is almost like thier interpretation of what they think people who own a Jamie Oliver cook book would really like but they havent actually opened the cook book.
I like the tables outside with the views across the Thames but you have to clear the area by 10 or so because of the residents above.
trickydisco - 21 Feb 2007 12:08
The Fentiman Arms is a long way; Rock The Boat is a bit grim; the atmosphere in The Rose is never quite works; The Lavendar is full of rozzers. Vauxhall's not overburdnened with good boozers. So the Riverside should be a big asset to those of us who live in Vauxhall but don't have bald heads and queue at the RVT, shouldn't it?

Well, it isn't - not quite. Yes, it's new and shiney and it looks pretty cool. And the view of Pimlico across the Thames are nice. And the outdoor bit is great in the summer.

But like our man said below, it's totally soulless. And it is very pricey. Despite being right below my flat, I still walk to The Rose when I want a drink - and that is a pretty damning indictment. The Riverside's just too... manufactured. If it were a band it would be The Spice Girls. Without Gerry.

A nice bar for a corporate lunch. Not a very good pub.

Visited early (before noon) on a Bank Holiday Sunday so, there were only 6 customers. It's got everything going for it. A gauranteed elite custom, very expensive fittings, Youngs Beers (4 available), apparently good food, polite service (the Poles speak good English) and, of course, a wonderful location.

I may well return to what is the best Airport lounge I've seen this side of Heathrow.

Utterly souless.
ianbeer - 28 Aug 2006 03:57
What a great venue! I went here for dinner with a few friends a couple of weeks back and i thought it was just great. We all had a wonderfull time and will be back. It is so nice to see a place like this, a quality venue, run by a quality firm.
harrywellborne - 5 Aug 2006 14:22
The Vauxhall Cross area has for some time been crying out for a good new mainstream pub. This place is huge, with a decent outside area as well. The full range of Youngs beers can be found on the bar, though the two I tried were served way too cold for my liking. I also had to ask for top-ups both times, and the wine I ordered for my girlfriend mysteriously transformed into a different (and more expensive) wine. Most of these staff-related gripes will hopefully be ironed out shortly (my visit was in the first week of opening). My gripe which may not get ironed out is that the place is extremely poncey. The prices are astronomical, and I found it hard to keep a straight face when counting up the number of times the word 'jus' appeared on the food menu. No doubt the Riverside is aimed at the people who live in 750K apartments overlooking the Thames, which is fine if it keeps them away from where I drink.
ChrisF - 27 Jul 2006 13:17
Peroni and Pimms and Lemonade on tap...as well as the usual good range of beers from Youngs. Vauxhall has been crying out for a decent pub for years, so this is certainly a bonus, despite all the suits!
vic_of_india - 21 Jul 2006 15:06
Pretty much ok considering it's in an ultramodern development - the Riverside opens to the river frontage and you can lean on the rail and look out to sea, er, Thames, while supping a good pint of Young's ale. One of the barstaff is from Plzen (home of the Pilsner beer style) so she should know her beer!
beeronaut - 21 Jul 2006 14:47
Opened in late June this Youngs pub caters the upwardly mobile set. Mix of wood, copper and stone materials sit alongside flatscreen TV's, trendy lights and good furniture inside and out.

Here you can find amongst the full set of Youngs ales, Peroni on tap next to Pimms on tap. There's cocktails and decent wines so my better half thinks this is the best pub in London.

Food looks very good albeit somewhat pricey, but not for this location. Service is in it's infancy so some improvement expected. I was put back by a waitress with nothing to do refusing to take my order as I was sitting in the bar area and not the eating area! Also a bit slow with orders when you want cocktails, but hey it's new!

Recommended for anyone using Vauxhall station, I'll stop short of raving about this one until it has settled down, but for now go and see for yourself.

The Riverside is brilliant just what Vauxhall needs. Theres been a dearth of good new pubs / bars in the area for ages and this falls somewhere in the middle. Its got all the warmth of a pub but the classy interior of a bar.

The food is fab I had a veal burger with fois gras! and its the sort of place you could stay all day. Best of all, its in my doorstep as I live in St George Wharf.

Have to say I was worried about potential noise but Ive not noticed any yet, even when people are in the al fresco area. Going to spend many a Sunday there in this fab weather

Brand new Youngs pub on the riverside (surprise surprise) near to Vauxhall Bridge. Went in on first weekend and impression was of a reasonable pub. Aimed at the more expensive end of the market. Good range of beers and reasonable food. Beware 12.5% 'optional' service charge that is added to all food orders - on top of already expensive food. Most like (and therefore competitor to) the Fentiman Arms on Fentiman Road.
snooop - 26 Jun 2006 23:37
Newly opened Young's pub in a smart riverside housing complex (those 3 weird looking towers by Vauxhall Bridge). Went for the opening night, and was fairly pleased. The range of ales is what you'd expect from a Youngs pub, and there are some interesting lagers too. Waggledance always tends to win me over anyway, but pretty ladies marketing the Peroni was an unexpected bonus.

Service was fine, but I'm going to save a proper review for when the place has settled down and got into its groove. Watch this space.
