Having literally having passed through the Market Inn (we walked in one side and out the other), we found the Fleur de Lis directly opposite. It was getting late on Easter Monday evening and with a few pubs still to do, I was looking for a swift visit. With a child in tow, the only way we could be let in was if we sit in the restaurant area. But when I said we only wanted drinks, we were told they couldn't serve us. We ordered a plate of chips. Staff were friendly apart from this and were probably just doing their job. But the ale selection was pretty ordinary - Sharps Doom Bar, Fullers London Pride & Harveys Sussex Best Bitter. A large pub with plenty of seating. But you need to be local to enjoy, unless you want to eat.

It was a cold day. We were hungry (both for food and good quality ale). We were not disappointed. The ale was nothing exceptional, Greedy King hogging the casks, but the atmosphere and efficient service more than made up for for the lack of more interesting ale. I've always been a fan of this place. As TWG relates, it's that fare pub nowadays in which old ladies and lads can both be perfectly at home. In part it is the two distinct drinking/eating areas separated by an unusually long bar that allows this place to please all-comers. Probably the best pub in Sandwich.

A rather touchingly-old-fashioned venue, with a raft of nick-nacks attached to various surfaces and a slightly lurid decor reminiscent of the bawdy old dens one used to find routinely in London and provincial towns. But this is unfair as it appeared to be a perfectly respsectable house, where elderly ladies could lunch on reasonably-priced simple fare quite comfortably, and various drinkers could also feel just as welcome. Service was efficient and pleasant, as was the ale, although being a GK brew sadly it was never going to knock my socks off. Well-kept though. This certainly oozes character and it really is a place where one could while away a whole afternoon steadily getting more and more sozzled. Alas, the call of other hostelries and the driving seat did not permit this. Maybe one day....

Great staff, great beer, great wine, 'nuff said. (didn't try the food - but the food prices looked as if they are influenced by Pfizer expense accounts - as per the whole of Sandwixh)

I enjoy being in the Fleur and the staff are really friendly. They have only one good guest beer on at a time but they are always of a good quality and they are drunk quickly which keeps them fresh. Food is a bit hit and miss. I have had brilliant and very poor meals here, but would always go back for a drink if in the area.

Excellent place for real ale and good food. Good range of ales from small independent breweries which constantly change. Very welcoming staff, comfortable restaurant area with pleasant decor, modern adventurous menu. The best pub for food and beer in Sandwich
