We had a meal here last week, I was a little wary, because I had read a few less than complimentary things about the food here. However, many of my friends eat here regularly and are very happy with the food and the service. We were seated quickly by friendly and helpful staff. The service was quick and efficient. the food was excellent value, presented well, and nice and hot. It had all been freshly prepared and was very tasty. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be happy with their food, and it all looked and smelt wonderful. If you are expecting haute cuisine and high fashion decor, this is not the place for you. But it you are after a very nice meal in a homely & friendly environment you won't be disappointed.

Most restuarants by the law of averages occasionally get things wrong. My wife, Daughter and her partner and I had Sunday lunch here today. We all ordered the Sunday roast beef. Unfortunately the beef was chewy, fatty and with gristle. So as you know, we are people who usually avoid making a fuss, however this meat was not good. I quietly and politely told the waitress and she informed the manageress. Our plates were removed and we were invited to make a new order, choosing two beef steaks, a pork steak and a salmon dish. We subsequently ate our meals, all, apart from the pork, being mediocre. After, we were presented with a bill for the full price of our meal. Which was substantually more than what it would have been had we had the Sunday roast. We were offered a bottle of wine in recognition of the situation, however this amounted to considerable less than the additional cost of the meal. In the meantime another table had complained about the quality of the beef. I spoke with the manageress and it was her attitude that has prompted me to write this. She insisted that there was nothing wrong with the meat and that no other customers had complained. I was made to feel as if I was out of order. The meat was of such poor quality it would have been wrong not to have mentioned it. We were most disappointed and will not be returning. We all get it wrong sometimes, perhaps an admission would have been appropriate. To finish on a positive, the waitresses were just great, we only hope they realised that we were not complaining just for the sake of it.

Poor service and under-staffed. Those staff present really not bothered and no management to be seen. The menu proved to be bland despite being a beautiful old building. Other people were complaining at the bar over the wait while we were there. We left without waiting for our main meals after over an hour's wait. Definately won't be returning to The Whittington or recommending to friends.

Called in for a meal on a Wednesday night. Pub was full and surprisinly busy, sadly there was a 2 hour wait for tables so we went elsewhere. Clearly a very popular pub.

Visited on 7/11/09. A 14th Century Inn on the A449. The building is historic and very atmospheric as one expects from somewhere with much history. The building is picturesque and the manor was owned by Dick Whittington's grandfather in the early 14th century.

Had a meal here. The fayre was fair to good, but nothing special considering it was 6.95 for a veggie burger. It was quite busy on the saturday night I was there, but it suffers from being a chain establishment in my opinion. I didn't sample the beer, but my house red was a pleasant merlot.

Considering what the plac is, it has th potential to be much better.

A most excellent pub and restaurant. They almost always have a guest beer of the real ale veriety some of which are rearly loveley. We live in Shropshire and always stop for an excellent meal and a pint whenever passing, often going out of our way to accomodate the occasion. Have even taken coach parties there on two occasions when returning from a venue in that direction. A few hours notice on the telephone and they made a real fuss of us. Would thoroughly recomend this pub.

What a lovely pub/restuarant this is.My husband and I were just passing this pub and noticed they were doing two meals for 10. We thought we would give it a try, because of the price we were not expecting much. How wrong we were,my husband and I ordered the 8oz STEAK, it was cooked to perfection, which we find is rare in cheaper pub meals. My husband likes his medium and myself medium to well done most pubs don't give you what you request but this was cooked beautifully, the meal also had a small bowl of side salad with it and frys. It was absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly, the gardens lovely and there was a nice atmosphere to this elegant olde worlde 14th century pub. I used to visit this restuarant many years ago when it was more upmarket in respect of the meals and was lovely to visit on special occasions. Nevertheless we have visited this pub 3 times in the last month. Great place for ladies like me that do lunch several times a week. Would highly recommend giving this place a whirl. By the way the Toffee Apple Crumble for dessert is yummy.

Have now given up on this pub as the last couple of times I visited it was severely understaffed and what staff there was, was very mediocre. Pity because as cozzer remarks it does have potential.

Really disappointed on a recent visit. The kitchen seems to have moved from well prepared food to fry from frozen pub grub. Staff rushed, and not particularly friendly. Naff bland pop background music. This old building has so much potential to be a good quality pub, and was until recently.

This is a pub I only visit once a month for Sunday lunch (after the local book fair). At one time I stopped going as the food was poor and the beer not an attraction and the landperson not the most genial of hostpeople. However some time ago it had a management change and things have looked up. The food is acceptable, the guest beers usually pretty good and the service friendly if not always super efficient. And the building has charm. Well worth a visit.

An amazing building dating back to 1310, steeped in history with a ghost on the loose. Last month took the whole family here for a very enjoyable Sunday lunch. Banks's MILD on handpull was average. Last night my son took me down there for a session on the Banks's Chocolate MILD, it was strange to see such a big pub with just a handfull of customers. Unfortunately the drink I was served was a pint of vinegar. Exchanged this for Banks's Original MILD but only given a half pint as I'd drank some of the Chocolate/vinegar MILD. Poor show old bean. Took our custom to The Robin Hood in Amblecote for a few pints of well kept Titanic MILD.
