Unfortunately closed again, and up for sale (375,000) due to the 'ill health' of the owner. What a shame. Any lottery winners out there who would like to buy it? - it was a regular outlet for Yeovil Ales, and trade was building up well. Hopefully there might be a happy ending!

Have now tried the Sunday lunch. Very good portion, and well presented. There were 4 Yeovil beers on (Glory, Stargazer, Summerset and the gloriously strong Posh IPA). See they also do Fish and Chips on Friday for 6.50, which includes a pudding. Trade, particularly in the evening, is building up well. Give it a try - you won't regret it!

Right met the new tenants (well, there parents at least!!). Yeah, all looking a lot brighter for the great old pub. I tried 'Yeovil Ales - Glory' and I have to say all good on that front.
This unit is still in need of some good cosmetic 'surgery' to the inside to bring it back to it's 1980's 'hey day' standard. Need good furnishings and a carpet on the flood to 'warm it up'. This house has the greatest potential of all the pubs in Yeovil's town centre. But, yeah,I do like it....a lot!!!
On another note, for any 'paranormal' fans out there, ask them about the 'unexplained going on's' upstairs. Like the footsteps in the dead of night walking the hallway. The strange knockings on the doors. The proding when lying in bed and the disappearing items in the upstairs kitchen (that reappear when you go back for another look!!). I can vouch for all this. I lived in the Wine Vaults for awhile in the late 1980's and it all happend to me. If anyone wants to drop me a line (via this site) about any of this please feel free.
This pub is one that needs to reclaim it's title as the 'best in Yeovil'. Good luck to the new operators. I will be back when I'm next in your town.

Whilst I'm on the subject, this is the pub where I met the afore mentioned 'Karen' !!! Haven't been in since the recent change on owners, but I will be back soon to report. Hopefully 'all good'.

Just an update - trade building up - Yeovil Ales selling well - restaurant opens Monday 6th. Well worth a visit.
|
Yes, indeed, this is open. Discovered by accident the other night when I saw the lights on. 3 Yeovil ales and Burrow Hill Cider, all on gravity. Hopefully the restaurant will be open soon, and if all goes well, thsi could be a decent boozer again. I wish them luck.

REOPENED July 2010 by professionals and the real ales are catered for by Yeovil Ales on a gravity stillage with live ciders. Focus is certainly on the live stillage and friendly safe environment. New decor and refit. Certainly worth a visit for a pint of top quality real ale in a welcoming pub.

OPEN, AGAIN!!! Trouble is its just a cleaned up version of what it was before. Still got the kids, pool table and Sky TV. This place really should be a quality eating house serving good real ales, lagers and fine wines. What we have again is yet another receipe for disaster.
Check it out, make your own minds up.

I knew this pub in the late 1980's when it was run by a guy called Dave Anderson. In those days this was the place in Yeovil. Dave was a fantastic manager and created an amazing atmospher, everyone used the place. When it closed at night everyone decamped for the Gardens Night club. I visited about two years ago (might have been longer) and I was appalled. The place was a right S**T Tip, run by some goon with no idea or interest. It was full of dead beats and gym slip mums with screaming children. I said then it would shut....and alas it has!
I agree with the guy below, if a good operator bought this unit, spent serious money, it wouls again become the in place. It has everything. Including location. Go Dave, have a go and buy the joint!!

This is CLOSED

first of all, yeovil people cant spell! All this place needs is a face lift. This will attract some of the more wealthy people in yeo to drink in there and will also get rid of the rough, dragged up scum that drink in there. It scares most people off, so paint, strip that wall paper off and watch the money roll in. Other than that cheap drinks and friendly barstaff, also good food and massive place!!!! some one buy that place out-right in the middle of all the action

A basic pub, aimed at a younger / football loving crowd.
Needs a good clean.
Where in the last 30 years has gin and tonic been served without either ice or lemon. Apart form British Rail, this place!
With a but of effort it might be a reasonable place, but it is at risk of joining the other pubs in Yeovil that couldn't face the onslaught of Wetherspoons.

full of matelots and the odd tramp but otherwise a down to earth boozer. Next time they decide to overhaul it, I suggest they don't just slap some paint on the walls and change the entrance doors...
