First visit here today. Pub is decorated with a large collection of novelty teapots and Toby jugs. Not really sure what to make of this place. Beer quality of the two I sampled was not as good as it could have been. Friendly staff, food looked good and generous portions.

What a find... a proper pub
Visited this place a few years back, & decided to give it another go whilst we were in the area
This place in an oasis in a sea of gastro pubs
Friendly welcoming great food & excellant beer
For me its all about the beer - will be back very soon - thanks for your hospitality!

Please could everyone be aware that, the willeymoor lock tavern near whitchurch shropshire on the a49 is a lovely rural public house in an ideal location that is only spoiled by the fact that it is staffed by one or more of the most offensive people it has been my misfortune to have met .
The female ? member of staff ? management ? , has the manners of a pig , an attitude towards customers that is arrogant and has all the charm of a large bull terrier . An almost totally vile individual with a foul mouth and no social graces .
An attempt was made to complain to the management . This was met with a complete lack of interest and only leads me to think that they are anti motorcycle ( my mode of transport this evening )? , anti social and probably related ! .
I have been to this lovely place many times over the years in my car and have been ( mostly ) pleased with the service and reception .
My advice would be to avoid this place like the plague if you decide to use anything other than your rather nice jaguar as transport . To say that this woman was arrogant and disgusting is an understatement . Her foul language was overheard by an elderly woman and her friends and was just another part of her obnoxious character . All in all , not the way to win new customers or reward a visitor of more than 30 years !

Can't believe the last review this is a great pub
Clean, tidy & traditional - not plastic
Food was fanastic, whoever cooks the steaks is doing a great job!!
Yes the sandwiches are basic, but they are offered in aditional to the menu, there are plenty of other choices which are very well priced
Most notably there is a super choice of wines & real ales
I wish i lived nearer

Overpriced pub grub, and tatty interior, should be better service food etc for the prices. Basic rump steak 11-50 little or trimmings, poor quality for the price.Several people have said it was not a good place to eat,and I can see quite clearly why

Great pub with great selection of real ales - hospitable and pleasant staff - good outside seating for summer months - all a pub should be.

Canalside boozer in a great location that is handy for walkers (it's on the Sandstone Trail rote) and has a range of real ales. Theakston's Best Bitter, Lancaster bomber plus local guests from Cheshire and Shropshire provide a good range. Tried Cruckbeam and Beartown beers which were good. Pleasant interior with lots of porcelian trinkets and an emphasis on food. Leafy beer gardens on 3 sides (including by the canal lock) and a large childrens playground. Had no problems with service as encountered below, must've been a bad time. Would return,

Good location, nice interior, decent range of beers. Food seemed OK, a little on the "cheap and cheerful"side maybe. We sampled the ham sandwiches: good ham, but sliced (brown) bread.

We were walking the final part of the Sandstone Trail yesterday - the most glorious day this year, we came across WILLEYMOOR LOCK TAVERN, a very welcome sight we thought.
The pub was closed and it was between 2 and 3pm. We sat outside on the table and chairs, hoping a welcome face would come out and say they would open for us.

What greeted us was the most rude arrogant Danny De Vito look alike with the worst case of small man syndrome i have ever come across.

He told us it wasnt a picnic area and walkers are not welcome because of their dirty boots. He called us spongers and to move away from his property.

He said he had made a good living for 31 years not serving walkers, we were puzzled - surely if he had made all those walkers welcome, he could have made a more substancial living and wouldnt be cleaning his own tables on the hottest day of the year so far.

This guy was an absolute joke - definitely in the wrong business - he probably missed the circus barge years ago because he was busy jumping up and down at walkers willing to spend good money in his grubby establishment.

Proper family run freehouse , well kept variety of real ales , proper food , very friendly . Only downside access for less mobile bit difficult , but if you can make it well worth it .

This is a great pub serving traditional pub food [steaks, grills, ham, lasagne, scampi etc] plus 6 hand pulled trad beers - totally unpretensious. situated by the shropshire union canal would be a joy during the warmer months. this pub was featured in older editions of the good pub guide, but appears to have been dropped recently. its a real shame because some of us still love simple things like chicken + chips!!!! maybe you could reconsider its status.its a pretty large place, large outdoor area + very family friendly

Really friendly easy going atmosphere. This is not a gastro-pub, proper pub food here, with proper chips. I had the Willeymore grill which was a plateful, my wife had the lasagne, which was clearly homemade, the in-laws both had the freshly battered cod, which was freshly prepared. The beer was fantastic, 5 trad ales - we had the Sharps special at 5%!!!!. Will certainly be returning

What a fantastic find. A traditional pub!! This place appeals to all ages. There were families with young children in the beer garden. Couples & groups of all ages eating & drinking throughout the pub. Beside the Lllangollen canal, in front of a working lock. & lots of people were sat outside on this beautiful late summer evening. This place is the exception to the rule - a real family run pub (29 years in the same family), no plastic management here all the family work hands on, which seems to go down well with the locals.

Serves escellent traditional pub grub and well kept real ales, in a superb canalside location.

On a sunny lunchtime entertainment is provided by inexperienced boaters trying to pass through the canal lock.

Rude staff and flat tasteless lager will be my lasting memory of my visit there.
On the face of it would appear to be a very nice Pub to spend an evening.A very pleasant location, and the number of people dining would suggest that the food is of a good standard.
However where it was sadly lacking is in the treatment of the paying customer.
For daring to politely complain about the quality of two of the lagers that i was served i was treated to the worst display of customer service i have ever encountered.
A barmaid telling me rudely that i would not be served anymore, a member of the serving staff telling me i was a pain who was not welcome there, and a Manager who couldn't be bothered to come out of the kitchen to talk to me.
Well, thanks very much, you can keep your "wonderful location", "wide range of real ales" and "home cooked food". If they can't be bothered to be reasonable and polite to a customer the Pub fails miserably in my book.
