The Bear Hotel is a nice looking building from the outside. But it is primarily a hotel and the interior is very bland and uninspiring. Although there may have been other rooms I didn't try. There is a small courtyard at the back, which seemed quite popular with families. A wedding reception appeared to be taking place somewhere in the hotel. The car park is clearly in high demand. The £10 cost for it seemed a bit excessive. Ales are from Wadworth - IPA, 6X & Swordfish. Service from the young barmaids was good. But compared with the other pubs in the town, this was the worst I visited.

Grand old market town hotel with some very nice features. There's a bar at the front and lounge and dining facilities towards the rear. It really is a landmark in the town. Wadworth's beer which we found to be in very good condition (the IPA was much better than I've had in other Waddie's pubs). Bus stops are just nearby and the Bear is definitely worth a visit.

New Chef who has 'upgraded' the menu and binned the old popular favourites to the detriment of choice. Prices to match of course! Beer is also no longer well kept. Managers son thinks he is Gods gift to bar management and is universally loathed by the normally very competent staff. Gents toilets flood when it rains. Log fires kept alive by customers as a rule as logs are rationed ! Lounge bar populated by strange escapees from care homes, or at least should be in one.

Excellent traditional hotel with two large bars - hard to get a seat in either on Market day (Thursday) at 1130 am. Coffees and teas were being drunk by the patrons at this time, is this a meeting place for visitors to the market? Efficient and speedy service from the staff who were all smartly dressed. My 6X was good, but the Farmers Glory (seasonal ale, see Wadworth website) was most enjoyable. Bar snacks were also also availble and looked good. Worth a return visit!

The usual Wadworths range, what more do you expect in Devizes?! I had a Horizon, its an average beer. Nice pub though. everyone seemed okay, 7 out of ten.

Came here for a Saturday evening drink recently. It was really busy in the back bar, a group of ladies in long gowns, meeting for pre-ball drinks, gave the place a pleasant upmarket atmosphere. Service was friendly, but as usual for pubs in Devizes I cannot recommend the beers that much. the 6X was its usual variable self. I find Wadworth's beers are never truly satisfying. Horizon was the best of a mediocre bunch.

A very friendly, quite old-fashioned place. Good beer and pretty good food too (large portions). Books line the walls and chess players are intent on their game. No TV, no jukebox, no fruit machine; an old hotel bar, perfect for a mid-day pint and a bit to eat. The prices are quite reasonable too. 8/10

Went in for lunch on Saturday. Good beer, good food and good service. Recommended.

Popped in for a pint on Saturday afternoon, nice unspoilt town pub, with very traditional locals, 3 or 4 Waddies beers on including Bishops Tipple.

I see it's nearly 4 years since i last reviewed this place, but everything i said then still holds good, except that the food has improved. I think the atmosphere here is quite unique, and absolutely to my taste; I hope it never changes.

This is a real old-fashioned hotel -quite an up-market one; but it's also a real pub, humming lunchtimes and evenings, and a focal point in the heart of the town for morning coffee and afternoon tea. Full range of good Wadworth's beer, good value bar meals and a separate restaurant. Pity there aren't more places like it left.
